According to reports from The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Georgia and assistant basketball coach Wade Mason are going their separate ways. This comes on the heels of Mason being suspended indefinitely for his part in a physical altercation that occurred at halftime of Georgia’s game against LSU last week.

“Obviously, it’s an unfortunate situation that we are dealing with,” Georgia head coach Tom Crean said about Mason situation. “It was all handled correctly, and we tried to keep our focus on basketball, and unfortunately today we just didn’t play very well. And we had our moments, but just not enough.”

When asked whether he saw the dispute or made the decision to suspend Wade Mason, Crean did not plan on elaborating.

“I’m gonna just refer everything back to that first statement after making that first comment,” he said Saturday following Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss. “Hope you guys understand. Leave it at that, and I’ll be happy to talk about the game.”

Mason joined the Georgia staff in June of 2021 making this his first season in Athens. He previously spent five seasons working at Stephen F. Austin, helping guide the Lumberjacks to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Stephen F. Austin also won the 2020 Southland Conference regular season crown, winning 28 games in each of those two season. During the 2019-20 season, the Lumberjacks went on the road and upset No.1-ranked Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
