Georgia Baseball drops just one spot in recent ranking, stays in top 10 in another
Georgia Baseball dropped its series over the weekend to SEC opponent Texas A&M, but lucky for them, Scott Stricklin’s club fell just one spot in the recently released D1Baseball Top 25. The Bulldogs went from No. 13 last week to No. 14 going 2-2 last week with a midweek win at Kennesaw State as well as a Friday night victory over A&M sandwiched in between the ugly losses.
In other rankings, Georgia is as high as No. 10. That is according to the USA Today Coaches Poll. Meanwhile, Baseball America has the Bulldogs at No. 18, Collegiate Baseball has them at No. 20. Perfect Game is lowest on the Dawgs, ranking them No. 23. Georgia comes in at No. 3 according to the NCAA RPI rankings.
Georgia has been successful at home this season for the most part, dropping just four games at Foley Field. This past weekend was the first series that they’ve lost in front of a home crowd, but they’ll have an opportunity for redemption on Tuesday when Clemson comes to town. The Bulldogs and Tigers met two weeks ago at Clemson with the Tigers winning 4-3. Then, it’ll be back to the road for each of the next two weekends as Georgia travels to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama (April 22-24) and Baton Rouge to play LSU (April 29-May 1).
At the midway point in league play, Georgia currently sits third in the SEC behind Tennessee and Arkansas, however, things are close and crowded around them. Three teams (Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M) are 8-7 while Vanderbilt and LSU are both within two games. Overall, the bottom 12 teams are separated by no more than four games with Kentucky, Missouri and Ole Miss all at 5-10 in the SEC.

Georgia gets starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon back this weekend after missing him the last two weeks. Cannon missed starts against South Carolina and Texas A&M due to a strained muscle in his right forearm. Before that though, he was off to a great start at 6-1 on the season with 46 strikeouts and just three walks in 47.1 innings pitched. Cannon was named to the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. In his absence, Nolan Crisp has picked up the slack, making starts in each of the last three weekends, while Liam Sullivan also returned to the rotation after missing time at the start of conference play.
Meanwhile, at the plate, Connor Tate is leading the team in batting average and RBIs, hitting .356 with 33 RBIs, and ranks among conference leaders with a .382 average in SEC games. Tate has a team-high 17 multi-hit games. Corey Collins however is the one leading the team in home runs hitting nine so far this season. He is trailed by both Ben Anderson and Parks Harber, who is in the midst of a career-best 11 game hitting streak, with six each. Harber reached base in 10 straight plate appearances last week with seven hits and three walks while freshman Cole Wagner and sophomore Fernando Gonzalez also enjoyed weeks, as Wagner started four games and hit .471 with four runs scored while Gonzalez hit .444 with three RBIs.
