Georgia baseball rises to No. 3 in newest D1 Baseball rankings

Georgia is coming off an undefeated week of baseball after sweeping previously No. 13-ranked Florida straight out of the D1 Baseball top 25. That performance, on the road, was good enough to move Georgia up one spot in the rankings to No. 3.
Tennessee ranks No. 1 after losing two games last week while Arkansas is No. 2. The Razorbacks won all four of their contests last week. Florida State and Oregon State, in that order, round out the top five. Clemson, Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, and Oregon, in that order, make up the rest of the top 10.
Georgia’s next opponent, Auburn, is up nine spots to No. 11, setting up a showdown between ranked teams at Foley Field this weekend. The Tigers are 19-5 overall and 4-2 in the SEC. Georgia is 23-2 overall and 5-1 in league play. Both teams have taken two of three from Kentucky in SEC play.
Prior to the weekend at Florida, Georgia had been leaving heavily on it’s offense to win games. Bulldog starting pitching have given the faithful plenty to worry about and it did so again in Friday night’s 8-7 win over the Gators. Once again UGA had to climb out of a first-inning hole to get the win.

Saturday and Sunday were different stories. Brian Curley started game two and tossed five innings of scoreless ball as Georgia crushed the Gators 17-2. Leighton Finley started Sunday’s game and went five innings of one-run ball as UGA run-ruled the Gators in seven innings by a score of 15-4.
Georgia blasted 13 home runs in those three games and it leads the nation in dingers with 70. That’s 11 more than the next closest team, Tennessee. The Bulldogs also lead the nation in runs scored with 269.
Two Bulldogs stand atop the list of home run leaders as well. Ryland Zaborowski ranks No. 1 in the nation while Robbie Burnett comes in at No. 2. Those two players rank No. 2 (Zaborowski) and No. 3 nationally (Burnett) in runs batted in. The Bulldogs now rank No. 81 nationally in earned run average at 4.92.
