A four-game sweep of UIC over the weekend has pushed Georgia up two spots in the latest D1 Baseball rankings. The Bulldogs started the week at No. 8 and now they are No. 6. Texas A&M, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, and North Carolina, in that order, make up the top five.

Georgia gives the SEC five of the top six teams in D1 Baseball’s top 25. Florida comes in at No. 8, giving the SEC six of the top 10.

The Bulldogs had a huge weekend at the plate vs. an overmatched Illinois-Chicago team. They scored at least nine runs in every game of the series. It started with a Friday double header and Georgia took the first game 9-3. Senior third baseman Slate Alford had a huge game, going 4 for 4 with a triple that drove in all three of his RBI. Outfielders Robbie Burnett and Devin Obee each had two heats and drove in two runs.

Game two of the double-header required just seven innings as Georgia jumped out to a 15-0 lead and won by run-rule after the top of the seventh. Cade Brown, Henry Hunter, and Ryland Zaborowski hit their first home runs of the season. Zaborowski’s was a grand slam as he drove in six runs.

Zaborowski went yard again on Saturday, this time it was a three-run shot in the seventh that pushed Georgia’s lead to 10-4 and that would be the final score. Georgia also got three shutout innings from Alabama transfer Alton Davis in the win as he struck out four.

Game four was competitive for a few innings before Georgia went wild in the bottom of the sixth. The Bulldogs entered the frame with a 7-3 lead but they hung 10 runs on the board. Burnett and Hunter both hit home runs with Hunter’s starting the 10-run rally. Sophomore outfielder Tre Phelps belted his first home run of the season in the sixth, a three-run shot. The Bulldogs batted so long that the game reached the travel curfew and it was called after six innings.

Next up is a trip to Georgia State on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs will host Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend for a three-game set.
