Georgia Baseball's bracket projections before SEC Tournament begins
The regular season is over, and it’s time for postseason baseball around the country. For the SEC, that means taking to Hoover, Ala. But before the SEC Tournament gets underway, D1Baseball released its latest NCAA Tournament projection with Georgia still safely in the field, even after a disappointing weekend.
According to the projection, the Bulldogs wouldn’t have to travel far, headed south to Statesboro, Ga. as the No. 2 seed in the regional hosted by Georgia Southern. Also in the four-team regional is fellow Peach State foe Georgia Tech as well as the Campbell Camels.
Georgia has a history against all three of those teams. The Bulldogs took two of three from Georgia Southern in their midweek series against the Eagles this season. After dropping the first game 13-5 at a neutral site, Georgia took game two of the series 5-1 in Statesboro in early March. Game three wasn’t until later that month, but once again the Bulldogs came out on top, this time at Foley Field. Overall the two teams have met 29 times, and Southern actually holds a slight lead in the all-time series at 16-13. Georgia Southern is 38-17 on the season and 23-7 in the Sun Belt with its conference tournament beginning this week as well. The Eagles also come in strong at No. 10 in the RPI rankings, just ahead of Georgia at No. 12.
Meanwhile, Georgia and Georgia Tech also have their fair share of history including a three-game weekend series this season. The Yellow Jackets took two of three from the Bulldogs the first weekend in March, winning 11-7 in Atlanta and 7-0 in Athens before Georgia won the Sunday series finale 12-3 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Like Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech holds the all-time series advantage over Georgia at 60-52. The Yellow Jackets are 33-21 on the season and 15-15 in the ACC, a nearly identical record to Georgia’s marks of 35-20 overall and 15-15 in the SEC, however Tech’s RPI ranking is lower at No. 20. They’ll take on Louisville and Pittsburgh in the ACC Tournament on Tuesday and Thursday in an attempt to get out of their pool and advance to the semifinals.

Finally, the Campbell Camels have a much shorter history against Georgia than the in-state teams, but it certainly relates to the NCAA Tournament. Campbell was a part of Georgia’s Athens Regional in 2018 when the Bulldogs beat the Camels 18-5 to open the tournament. Overall, the two teams have played six times, just once since 1991. All six meetings have been won by Georgia.
The Bulldogs will want to take care of their own business this week at the SEC Tournament, getting things started in Hoover against Alabama on Tuesday. The winner between Georgia and Alabama, seeded No. 6 and No. 11 respectively, will advance into the double-elimination portion of the bracket to take on No. 3 seed Arkansas. First pitch is set for 10:30 a.m. ET on SEC Network.
