Georgia Basketball dismantled by No. 1 Alabama in blowout loss
Georgia’s lone SEC win last season came against Alabama. Nate Oats and company made sure that wasn’t going to happen again with the Bulldogs taking on the top-ranked Crimson Tide. As announced by the NCAA Tournament selection committee earlier in the day, Alabama would be the top overall seed if the big dance were to start today. They showed exactly why that is in a 108-59 dismantling of the Bulldogs.
Nate Oats’ team went into the locker room up 54-25, and to put into perspective the kind of first 20 minutes (really even 15:00 scoring their 50th point with 5:02 to go), Alabama made 17 shots all game in their last outing, a loss to Tennessee on Wednesday. In the first half, the Crimson Tide made 20, shooting 64.5% from the field.
SEC Freshman of the Year favorite Brandon Miller had 18 at the break while Mark Sears poured in 15 himself. As a team, Alabama made 10 of 17 attempts from 3-point range (55.8%) including a 5-for-5 first half from Sears. It was all Crimson Tide from the get-go, leading by as many as 31 in the first half.
If you thought Alabama might let up in the second half you were wrong. The Crimson Tide came out of the gates and hit yet another 3-pointer just 18 seconds in to go up by 32. Alabama led by 30+ for the remainder of the game, and at one point had Georgia doubled-up 100-50.
Miller finished with 21 as one of five Alabama players in double-figures. Georgia had three do so led by Justin Hill‘s 17. Terry Roberts added 11 while Braelen Bridges had 10.

Alabama’s 108 is the most Georgia has allowed since the 2021 trip to Tuscaloosa when the Crimson Tide put up 115. It’s the first time a Mike White coached team has allowed triple digits since 2017 when his Florida Gators beat Gonzaga 111-105 in double overtime. It’s the only time prior to today that a White coached team has allowed 100.
The 49-point margin of defeat is the largest by Georgia since January 29, 1959 when the Bulldogs lost to No. 1 Kentucky 108-55. It’s the sixth largest loss in program history.
The Bulldogs will want to put this one behind them as quickly as possible, and they’ll have a chance to do so Tuesday night against Arkansas (18-9 overall, 7-7 SEC). Only problem is, Georgia (16-11 overall, 6-8 SEC) has struggled on the road all year long, and Tuesday’s contest against the Razorbacks will come in Fayetteville. So far this season, Georgia has won just one game at a true road venue and three away from the friendly confines of Stegeman Coliseum. Tip time from Bud Walton Arena is set for 9:00 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
