Georgia Basketball dominant in blowout win over Buffalo
Georgia Basketball was dominant Thursday night as the Bulldogs defeated Buffalo 100-49. It’s the tenth win of the season for Mike White’s squad in his third year as the build on the program’s strongest start since 2001-02 (11-1). Six different UGA players finished in double-figures on the scoreboard as the Bulldogs hit the 100-point mark for the second time in the last four games, putting up a program-high under the direction of White with 102 against Jacksonville just 19 days ago.
Things were looking good for Georgia from the jump as Tyrin Lawrence and Blue Cain hit 3-pointers on the team’s first two possessions. That was just the beginning of a 23-0 Bulldog run that saw each of the five starters pitch in including 10 points from Silas Demary.
Buffalo finally got on the board over five minutes into the game at the 14:35 mark, but things didn’t slow down from there for the Dawgs. Demary made another 3-pointer to give him half of the team’s points at the first media timeout (26-8 UGA, 12:02 1H) before De’Shayne Montgomery made his Georgia debut. Montgomery missed the first 10 games of the year due to academic ineligibility, but made a statement in his first time out after transferring in from Mount St. Mary’s, making his first three attempts from the field including a pair of 3-pointers.
On the whole, Georgia made 10 first-half 3-pointers on 19 attempts with six different Dawgs connecting from deep (Lawrence, Cain, Demary, Montgomery, Dakota Leffew, Savo Drezgic) and shot greater than 65% (21-for-32) from the field, entering the locker room with a 56-19 lead.
Asa Newell joined the party, getting into double-figures with back to back dunks in transition and six straight points to start the second half. RJ Godfrey wasn’t far behind as the two combined to score Georgia’s first 12 points of the frame.

Montgomery, upon re-entering the game in the second half, added to his strong start with a 3-pointer and a steal and slam to make it 73-30 with 13:21 to go, prompting a Buffalo timeout. That put him into double-figures with 14 points to join Demary and Newell.
Somto Cyril not only joined the Georgia crew in double figures but gave Georgia a 50-point lead with an a finish at the rim through a foul. His tenth point went along with double digit rebounds, recording his tenth less than a minute before, and a fifth block on the following trip down the court. It was his first career double-double and a second straight game with five blocks after doing so on Saturday against Grand Canyon as well.
Montgomery tied with Newell for the team-high for the night with 16 points, his final two coming on a layup to hit the 100-point mark for Georgia. The Bulldogs finished up shooting 53.6% from the field (37-of-69) with 14 makes from beyond the 3-point line.
Georgia, winners of 25 straight at home against non-conference opponents, continues non-conference play with another one this weekend, taking on Charleston Southern Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum. Tip time is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. It’s one of two remaining non-conference games, the other coming a week later against South Carolina State, before the Bulldogs begin their SEC gauntlet with each of their first five games and six of the first seven coming against teams currently in the top 20 including a trio of squads (Tennessee, Florida, Oklahoma) still unbeaten on the season.
