Georgia basketball transfers continue as Jonathan Ned enters portal
The attrition on the side of Georgia basketball continued on Friday morning, as ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that senior Jonathan Ned will be the ninth Bulldog to test the waters of the transfer portal.
Ned may be the least surprising of the player who’ve decided to opt for opportunities elsewhere, as he did take part in senior day activities with the Dawgs and saw no action in 2021-22 season.
Per his bio on GeorgiaDogs.com, Ned dealt with a combination of injury and illness, including a foot injury that prevented him from dressing out for the final 23 games of the season, which kept him off the court in his final season with the Bulldogs.
In the previous season, he averaged just 1.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game in an average of 6.6 minutes of floor time.
A native of Brentwood, California, Ned transferred to Athens from Eastern Florida State College.
Two Georgia basketball transfers on Thursday
While there’s been plenty of action when it comes to Georgia players hitting the transfer portal, the news of Ned’s decision comes less than twenty-four hours on the heels of two decisions on Thursday.
Tyron McMillan, a 6-foot-9 junior, started the day on Thursday. In 21 game appearances this previous season, McMillan averaged just 1.7 points per game, along with averaging 1.3 rebounds in an average of 7.6 minutes on the court.
He was soon joined by walk-on Jaxon Etter, who started 22 contested including all 18 SEC outings and played in 31 of 32 games. Etter averaged 5.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game.

In addition to that duo, Dalen Ridgnal entered the transfer portal last week. Then, Camron McDowell and Tyrone Baker did so within minutes of each other on Tuesday. Later that day, Christian Wright, who started 11 contests for Tom Crean’s team, put his name in. Leading scorer Kario Oquendo announced his intentions to hit the portal on Wednesday, and he was soon followed by forward Josh Taylor.
As it stands, the Bulldogs have four players expected to return from the 2021-22 team that went 6-26. Jailyn Ingram was a sixth-year senior last year, not burning a year of eligibility in 2020-21 due to COVID and having redshirted once before. He got hurt nine games in and was expected to get a medical redshirt if he chooses to pursue that. The same could be said about PJ Horne, however at season’s end, those within the program were not expecting him to pursue. Then there are rising super-seniors Noah Baumann and Braelen Bridges, neither of whom went through Senior Day ceremonies. Finally, Jabri Abdur-Rahim wrapped up his second season of College Basketball at Georgia after transferring to Athens from Virginia. Abdur-Rahim was one of three Bulldogs to play in all 32 outings, and he’s expected back for his junior season in 2022-23.
Georgia has also added a player from the transfer portal themselves. Longwood transfer Justin Hill announced his commitment to Georgia after averaging 14.0 points per game for the Lancers on their way to the NCAA Tournament. Hill was the first addition, from either the high school or collegiate ranks, in the Mike White era.
