Georgia Basketball's Dalen Ridgnal enters transfer portal
Georgia Basketball was expecting some turnover at the end of the 2021-22 season. A coaching change was on the way, and with that, there were bound to be some players that decided to look elsewhere. On Tuesday, Bulldogs’ forward Dalen Ridgnal became the first player to decide to do so, entering his name into the transfer portal as first reported by VerbalCommits.com.
Ridgnal spent just one season at Georgia after his first two years of collegiate basketball were played at the junior college level. He started 18 of 31 games as a freshman at Cowley College in Kansas, averaging 16.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game while bing named a third-team All-American, before starting 29 games as a sophomore, once again being tabbed as an All-American as he averaged 21.1 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.
However, that production didn’t quite transfer over to the Division I level. Ridgnal played in 28 of 32 games for Georgia in a 6-26 season with just one start, averaging 2.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game. The 6-foot-7 junior put up a season-high 10 points versus Western Carolina, adding in a season-high nine rebounds as well, but he scored more then five points just four other times and recorded more than five rebounds on just two other occasions.
With new coach Mike White, Ridgnal will likely be one of several Bulldogs that decides to enter the transfer portal. Last season nine players left to program via transfer including several that went on to star elsewhere. However, if White wants to turn things around, starting from scratch, or as close to it as possible, might be the route he decides to go.

White has already brought on two assistants, both of whom spent time with him at Florida before Georgia. The school announced both Akeem Miskdeen and Erik Pastrana within the last week, leaving one spot open on the bench for another assistant.
