Just when it looked like Georgia Basketball’s roster was set for 2023-24, the Bulldogs suffered another departure to the transfer portal. According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, rising junior guard Jusaun Holt has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Holt spent just one season at Georgia, transferring to Athens after a freshman year at Alabama. He finished 2022-23 averaging 3.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game, playing in 31 while starting 11 contests.

Holt played a season-high 32 minutes in his first SEC start in late January against South Carolina, the first of seven straight he was among the first five. He also had a season-high five steals in the win over the Gamecocks. In the second of those seven games, Holt scored nine points, also a season-high, however a zero in the scoring column the next night out showed the sort of inconsistency that made it hard for Holt to be relied upon offensively. His strong suit was on defense, pulling down as many as eight rebounds with multiple steals in ten contests.

Holt’s departure is the seventh this offseason for Mike White and the Georgia Basketball program joining Terry Roberts, Kario Oquendo, Jaxon Etter, Mardrez McBride, Jailyn Ingram and Braelen Bridges. To replace them, White and company have added eight players, four from the transfer portal and four from the high school ranks. One opening remains with Georgia having leads on a few potential players out of the portal already to fill it.

Noah Thomasson (Niagara) became the latest Bulldog commitment on Tuesday out of the transfer portal. He averaged 19.5 points per game this past season to lead all scorers in the MAAC, shooting 48.1% from the field 38.6% from 3-point range in 31 games.

Thomasson’s decision to choose Georgia over the likes of Pittsburgh, Penn State, St. Johns and San Francisco jumped Georgia into the No. 17 spot in the On3 Transfer Portal rankings. Other additions there have included RJ Melendez (Illinois), Jalen DeLoach (VCU) and Russel Tchewa (South Florida).

That’s not all though. Two players have committed to Georgia from the high school ranks since the season ended, both ranking in the top-100 according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Silas Demary Jr. and Blue Cain both had signed elsewhere in November but got out of their National Letters of Intent to ultimately land at Georgia. They join the Bulldogs’ own November signees Dylan James and Mari Jordan. Like Demary and Cain, James was also a top-100 player according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Georgia now returns just four players from 2022-23 when the Bulldogs upped their win total by 10 games to go 16-16. It was the second-largest regular season increase among Power Five teams. Returnees include: Jabri Abdur-RahimFrank Anselem-IbeJustin Hill and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe.
