Georgia Bulldogs 23 for '23: No. 11 Nazir Stackhouse
As SEC Media Days is here and fall camp gets closer and closer, we continue along with our series taking a look at Georgia’s most important players for the upcoming season.
As we’ve stated before, important can have different definitions. Some players’ importance for this season is based on their past performance and ability to repeat that this fall. For others, it’s about their potential and what living up to it would mean for Georgia and its chances at winning a third straight National Championship. Now at No. 11 on our list of most important Bulldogs, defensive lineman Nazir Stackhouse.
Nazir Stackhouse
Position: Defensive Lineman
Class: Senior
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 320 pounds
Hometown (High School): Stone Mountain, Ga. (Columbia)
For a second straight season, Georgia has to replace multiple first round picks on the defensive side of the football, and for a second straight season, the highest drafted of them came from the defensive line. In filling the void left behind by Jalen Carter, look for Nazir Stackhouse to step up.
Stackhouse started all 15 games up front last season, totaling 32 tackles. Among those were three tackles for loss including a shared one in the National Championship Game win over TCU. There were things to like with this guy He got better as the season went along, recording three of more tackles five times from the month of October on. Two of those games, against Florida and Kentucky, saw Stackhouse rack up five stops.

Now without Carter, Stackhouse can be the centerpiece on the interior. Guys like Zion Logue and Warren Brinson are going to be helping hands too, but Stackhouse has the potential to be the star. His name is already being thrown around as a potential pick in next year’s NFL Draft. Can he live up to those expectations and keep the line of Bulldog d-linemen entering the league going? It’s important that he at least takes another step forward up front for Georgia’s defense without last year’s star.
Know the Quote
“He spent a lot of time down there (on the scout team) and grew and got better,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Stackhouse last season. “I think Tray Scott’s done an incredible job with Naz in developing him … He just gets better with each year. He’s smarter, he’s wiser.”
“It is an eye-opener for us guys who aren’t used to the pass rush,” Stackhouse said this spring. “Some of us guys are one-dimensional, so Tray Scott is working hard to help us work both ways, stopping the run and pass rushing, affecting the QB, just being destructive on the field. It’s more of a challenge than it is hard for us, because we’ve all been waiting for this opportunity …. maximizing our value to transition from run stoppers to being a pass rushers and helping the team out in that category.”
