Georgia Bulldogs 23 for '23: No. 14 Zion Logue
SEC Media Days and the start of fall camp are quickly approaching. With that, we’re continuing on in our look at Georgia’s most important players for 2023.
As we’ve stated before, important can have different definitions. Some players’ importance for this season is based on their past performance and ability to repeat that this fall. For others, it’s about their potential and what living up to it would mean for Georgia and its chances at winning a third straight National Championship. Now at No. 14 on our list of most important Bulldogs, defensive lineman Zion Logue.
Zion Logue
Position: Defensive Lineman
Class: Senior
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 295 pounds
Hometown (High School): Lebanon, Tenn. (Lebanon)
Georgia has been a factory for NFL defensive linemen over the last few seasons. In the past two drafts, four Bulldog defensive linemen have been picked – all in the first round. That means more pressure for the ones that are left behind including Zion Logue, one of the oldest of the group in his fifth season.
Logue saw action in all 15 games last season, starting six. He had 16 stops including a trio of three-tackle performances against Tennessee, Auburn and Kent State. Logue also recovered a fumble in the win over Auburn.

His stats weren’t incredible, but his impact goes beyond just that. Logue is unquestionably a leader for the Bulldogs, often selected to speak on behalf of his teammates to the media by head coach Kirby Smart.
That isn’t likely to change in 2023 as an upperclassman, especially considering his role on the field is probably going to see an increase too. Considering the departures of Jalen Carter and Bear Alexander, pressure is on Logue – along with Warren Brinson and Nazir Stackhouse among others – on the interior to hold things down. I’m expecting big things from someone who can sometimes fly under the radar in the impact he’s making along the line of scrimmage.

“The maturation process, really Z was already very mature and a leader before this year, he’s kind of earned it and done it,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said about Logue towards the end of last season. “He’s been around here for a while, a lot of guys have stepped up to give us an opportunity to be where we are.”
“We’re happy for Jalen. All the things he’s accomplished here at this university. Nobody’s surprised by that. We all knew once his time came for him to go into that draft and when he was going to take that next step he was going to take with a full head of steam, and we’re all wishing him the best of luck,” Logue said during the spring about the defensive line room without last season’s star. “But we preach at the University of Georgia next man up. I believe you heard it all throughout the season last year when guys went down, and throughout the years that Coach Smart has been here. He’s built that culture of next guy up no matter if a guy leaves or if a guy gets injured, if you’re out there on that field, you’re a starter. So we’ve just got to find that next piece.”
