His name strikes fear into the hearts of opposing defensive backs, and it all started against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

That was when Ladd McConkey burst onto the scene in the SEC, putting everyone on notice that a small receiver from Chatsworth, Georgia would hurt you in a way you could probably have never imagined.

After redshirting in his 2020 season, McConkey came through in a big way quickly.

McConkey stepped to the plate as a relative unknown against Vandy, with a career-high 24 yards against the UAB Blazers to his credit at that point.

Against the Commodores, however, he became an unstoppable force going for four receptions, 62 yards, and a touchdown through the air.

On the ground, he followed it with a 24-yard sweep that scored for the Bulldogs, as well.

Aside from Mossing an Auburn receiver in what was a marquee moment for Georgia in 2021, McConkey would go on to post 31 receptions for 447 yards and five receiving touchdowns on the year.

The nation’s No. 1134 overall player in the On3 Consensus ranking and a Consensus three-star, McConkey was also the No. 185 overall wide receiver in the 2021 class and the No. 122 prospect in the state of Georgia.

It’s safe to say he’s outplayed his ranking already, as he is considered a four-star collegiate player and the No. 128 overall player in college football per the On3 Rankings.

The late offer certainly paid off for Georgia, and Kirby Smart and staff have to be pleased to wrestled the former quarterback away from the likes of Georgia Southern, Mercer, and especially the Commodores.
