In the world of the transfer portal, Georgia, like most, has experienced the good and bad. Today, we’re looking at one of the best stories of the portal era where the Dawgs were concerned — No. 65 on the roster, Amarius Mims.

Very nearly one of the elite Five-Star+ prospects of the Class of 2021, Mims was the apple of Georgia’s eye all along, given his in-state ties coming from Bleckley County and his massive size.

At 6-foot-7, 330-pounds, Mims came to Athens with expectations surrounding his career as large as his frame, but as is often the case, there was experience in front of him and an adjustment to collegiate talent also at play.

Still, the big man participated in eight contests during Georgia’s National Championship run and was expected to come into the spring competing for starting time.

Days before Georgia’s 2022 spring game, however, Mims would enter his name into the transfer portal and flirt heavily with the Florida State Seminoles.

Mims even took a visit to Tallahassee to spend time with Mike Norvell’s staff, but ultimately, he opted to spurn the Noles, as well as his many suitors, removing his name from the transfer portal and returning to Georgia.

Since that time, it’s been all quiet on the western front for Mims, which is great news for Georgia’s offensive line situation moving forward.

Will he break through this fall and find his way into the starting rotation?

It will certainly be worth watching, but either way, the Bulldogs are glad they were able to hold on to one of their prized stars.

So, when you’re watching 65 out there this fall in whatever role he plays, tip the cap for a happy ending to what could have been a tough transfer portal story for Georgia.
