It’s 77 days until kickoff for the Georgia Bulldogs, and we’re commemorating each leadup day with a representative tie to the Bulldogs. 77 jumped off the page when thinking of the great Isaiah Wynn, a man who proved it’s far more about the size of the fight in the Dawg than the size of the Dawg in the fight.

Looking back on Isaiah Wynn

Wynn was a highly-regarded prospect coming out of Lakewood High in St. Petersburg, Florida, as he was a Consensus four-star prospect and the nation’s No. 102 overall player in the Class of 2014.

The great knock on him, however? Size.

Revisionist history will suggest many considered him a tackle, but the reality back in those days was that people assumed a guy that was 6-foot-2 was destined for the interior of the offensive line.

And to start his career off, that was the case.

Wynn largely held down guard spots in the early goings, including his junior year where he started 12 of 13 games at the spot. The lone missed game ended a streak of 23 straight starts.

But senior year rolled around, and Wynn, who’d established himself as Georgia’s top lineman regardless of position, stepped into the most important spot on the front— left tackle.

In Georgia’s National Championship runner-up season, all he did was start all fifteen games at the left side anchor, gain permanent team captain status, and co-won the Frank Sinkwich award for toughness.

He was also named a second-team AP All-American and an AP All-SEC first-team player.

From there, Wynn was drafted in the first round of the 2018 draft at No. 23 overall by the New England Patriots, later joined in the round by his longtime friend and 2014 classmate Sony Michel.

He’s since been a stalwart on the offensive front for the Pats, just as he was for the Bulldogs during his outstanding career in Athens.

A damn good Dawg to be sure and one of top heart-over-height examples to come through Athens.
