24 has been a great number for many a Georgia Bulldog, and that’s just how far we find ourselves away from kickoff as of today.

Perhaps the most famous Georgia player to sport the number would be a name that’s etched into the eternity of Bulldogs’ football lore thanks to three simple words — ‘Run, Lindsay, run!’

That’d be Lindsay Scott, who contributed over 2000 receiving yards to the stat book for the Bulldogs over his career in red and black and ten touchdowns, though none holds a place quite like that of his score against the Florida Gators.

Interestingly enough, the line isn’t quite how you may remember, which Don Coble of USAToday wrote on almost ten years ago.

Instead, it goes a bit like this:

“Florida in a stand-up five. They may or may not blitz. Buck back, third down on the eight. In trouble, he got a block behind him. Gotta throw on the run. Complete to the 25. To the 30, Lindsay Scott 35, 40, Lindsay Scott 45, 50, 45, 40 . . . Run Lindsay, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott!”

Even armed with this knowledge, we don’t expect Georgia fans will be moving away from the famed remembrance anytime soon.

Scott’s touchdown would keep alive the 1980 Championship hopes, and you know how that story ended.

The Saints would draft Scott in the first round of the 1982 draft.

Then, how could we forget Horace King?

King was part of the first racially integrated recruiting class in Bulldogs history and would go on to make his mark with the Bulldogs (not in Athens, as he was already a native of the city and played at Clarke Central High School) with over 1600 total career yards and 20 career scores.

He was a trailblazer for the Bulldogs and would later go on to play for Detroit Lions in the NFL.

In more recent years, New Jersey native Knowshon Moreno would don the 24 and put together two phenomenal seasons for the Bulldogs, topping 1300 yards in both.

Moreno was a force out of the backfield in the receiving game, as well, and finish his career with almost 3400 yards and 32 touchdowns.

The Denver Broncos would select Moreno in the first round in 2009 and finish with the Miami Dolphins after a respectable, although injury-hampered, career.

Now, former five-star Malaki Starks and Collin Drake will carry on the legacy of the number for the foreseeable future in Athens.

Given the legacy behind them, we have high expectations for the number 24.
