Georgia Bulldogs Countdown to Kickoff: Day 37
How ‘bout those Hawgs? Georgia fans seem to have a special place for Arkansas these days, as the work of Sam Pittman is still widely regarded as some of the best of any assistant coach in recent memory in Athens.
And they do owe much credit to him for reshaping the offensive line room.
Kirby Smart was quick to acknowledge the work of his former assistant prior to Georgia’s hosting the Razorbacks last season.
“He was always good for me to be around leading up the games, you know, or if you’re worried about something, Sam always had a great spin and a great vibe on it and he was great for our staff, you know, staff morale and he’s just a phenomenal person. I’d always heard so many good things about him as a coach in Alabama, and we tried to hire him a couple of times and could never get him and then when I got the job (at UGA), he was the number one guy that I targeted and I’m so thankful that he came with us.”
And while there’s plenty of love on all the fronts, that didn’t stop the Bulldogs from stomping an absolute mudhole in Arkansas in game five of last season.
Pittman’s squad rolled into Athens with much hype surrounding the team and carrying the No. 8 ranking, setting up a top ten showdown with No. 2 Georgia.
It really couldn’t have gone any better for the Bulldogs, who were absolutely dominant in the contest.
Offensively, the rushing attack carried the game, with Zamir White racking up 68 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
James Cook didn’t find paydirt, but he did contribute another 87 yards for Bulldogs and 7.3 yards per carry on the day.

And who can forget Kendall Milton’s touchdown behind the ultimate jumbo package of Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter?
Defensively, though, the Bulldogs were absolutely suffocating and gave perhaps the best glimpse into their work for the rest of the season on that side of the ball.
The Dawgs defense allowed only 162 yards on the day, stifling the run game and thwarting any momentum quarterback KJ Jefferson could get going.
Georgia’s four sacks and seven tackles for loss kept the Hawgs punting all day and helped to secure a donut on the scoreboard.
It was a game that was touted as a big test for the Bulldogs, and instead, Kirby Smart’s squad made quick work and got work in for backups.
The final score? 37-0.
