When you think of important cogs in the machine for any college football superpower, left tackle has to be among the top pieces, and that’s no exception at Georgia.

Luckily, the Bulldogs have one of the best in the nation manning the spot for them in No. 59 — big, bad Broderick Jones.

A Consensus five-star player in the 2020 cycle, Jones ranked as the nation’s No. 8 overall player, the No. 1 offensive tackle, and No. 2 player in the state of Georgia for his class.

Hailing from Lithonia High, Jones was one of the most coveted prospects of the 2020 class and for good reason.

His unique combination of size, athleticism, and flexibility had coaches around the country drooling at the prospect of reeling in his services, and on National Signing Day of 2020, he let the Bulldogs know they were the lucky ones.

As with most offensive linemen, Jones’ freshman season was developmental, playing in only two contests against South Carolina and Missouri, respectively.

But in Georgia’s 2021 National Championship season, his skill became too much to deny.

Jones featured in every contest for the Bulldogs, starting the final four games of the regular season at left tackle in place of an injured Jamaree Salyer.

He was also instrumental in the Championship win, coming in at the spot when the Bulldogs opted to bump Salyer into the guard spot. The move was a major turning point for the Georgia offense.

Moving into 2022, Jones looks to be the unquestioned starter at left tackle, and, if all goes well, he’ll likely find himself receiving major early-round draft consideration.

If the Dawgs are to have great success in the upcoming season, it’s clear that part of that will move through the No. 59, so he gets our nod for the day.
