Georgia’s defense sustained some losses this week but Friday brought welcome news as rising senior cornerback Daylen Everette announced that he’s returning for his senior season. The former four-star prospect has two years to play one.

Everette has started 28 straight games at Georgia dating back to the start of the 2023 season. He has been up and down at times, struggling against some big-time receivers but also putting his best foot forward in the biggest moments of 2024.

The Virginia native had a strip sack and fumble recovery at Texas in October to go with the second interception of his career. Then he picked Quinn Ewers off twice when the Bulldogs and Longhorns squared off in the SEC Championship game, earning MVP honors.

The 2023 season was Everette’s first as a starer and he responded with 29 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup, and his first career interception in the Capital One Orange Bowl win over Florida State. The 2024 season saw him double his tackle total to 58 in the same number of games while registering two tackles for loss, a sack, and those two interceptions. He also forced two fumbles.

Georgia has gotten great news from two members of the 2022 class this week. Christen Miller announced that he’ll be back at UGA for a fourth season, giving the Bulldogs a huge boost on the defensive line. Everette was the No. 33-ranked overall prospect in that 2022 class according to the On3 Industry ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings. He was the No. 5 cornerback in that class and since he finished his high school career at IMG Academy, he was the No. 7 player in Florida despite being from Virginia.

The Bulldogs also lost a some key defenders, mainly on the edges. Defensive ends Mykel Williams and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins announced their decisions to go pro this week. Jalon Walker did the same while Damon Wilson entered the transfer portal. Everette’s return settles the dust for the Bulldogs on the defensive side of the ball, at least when it comes to departures, until the spring transfer portal window opens.
