Georgia football Combine results and culture concerns answered

Georgia had some big winners at the NFL Combine. The biggest losers of the weekend are the people saying Kirby Smart has a ‘culture problem.’

We tackled all of it on another Sunday night live edition of The Georgia Show.

When you look at the performances Georgia players put out there on the Lucas Oil Stadium turf, there is a lot to like.

Nolan Smith‘s 40 time and vertical jump were tops among defensive ends and all players there.

Kelee Ringo‘s 40 time put him in the top 10 of all NFL Combine participants.

Stetson Bennett threw some rainbow bombs and ran a decent 40-yard-dash himself.

Broderick Jones was the fastest offensive lineman, and Darnell Washington proved he can be the total package at tight end.

Robert Beal‘s 40 time may help him. Kenny McIntosh‘s workout may hurt him.

How much does this past week impact Jalen Carter‘s NFL Draft position? We may not know until the Draft itself.

So yes, it was a mixed bag of highs and lows for the Dawgs at the NFL Combine. But the players who showed out really showed out with power, speed and finesse.

Which player actually won the combine for the Dawgs? You can hear our thoughts on The Georgia Show (YouTube / Apple / Spotify):

Addressing the ‘culture concerns’ within Kirby Smart’s program

This offseason is one of the toughest Georgia football off-seasons I can recall.

Ironically, it’s happening after Georgia won back-to-back National Championships.

Kirby Smart addressed the ‘culture concerns’ within his program that many want to point out in the national media. Some columnists in Georgia allude to it as well.

All we have to say about it on The Georgia Show is that two things can be true:

Georgia’s ‘culture’ is not compromised and Kirby Smart should not be held responsible for his players’ decisions to drive recklessly.

Kirby Smart does have to own the response and the repercussions to those actions, at least in the case of Jamon Dumas-Johnson, who is still on the team.

Smart can’t control when players decide to drive dangerously. According to his conversation with ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, his staff already tried to get ahead of that directive by warning the team about the dangers of street racing.

He can’t control when breeches in protocol happen, as was the case in the tragic wreck that took the lives of Chandler LeCroy and Devin Willock.

Beyond these incidents, however, this fallout and action steps are Kirby Smart’s to manage. His already challenging spring just got a lot more difficult.
