Georgia commit AJ Harris was one of three 2023 prospects to move into On3 Consensus five-star status on Wednesday after updates around the recruiting industry. The 6-foot-0.5, 190-pound cornerback out of Phenix City (Ala.) Central High School is now ranked No. 32 overall in the country and the No. 2 player at his position for the Class of 2023 according to the On3 Consensus.

Others to pickup their On3 Consensus fifth star included Venice (Fla.) EDGE Damon Wilson, who Georgia has a 36% chance to land according to the On3 RPM, and LSU wide receiver commit Shelton Sampson out of Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic.

The On3 Consensus is the only rating and ranking that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The On3 Consensus equally weights the four major media companies at 25%. Other industry composite ratings disproportionately weight their own rating, in some cases greater than 50%.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power had the following to say about Harris, who was in Athens this past weekend to visit Georgia and see the Bulldogs beat Auburn 42-10:

“Polished, developed defensive back with positional versatility. Has good stature and size, checking in at 6-foot-1 and around 180 pounds prior to his junior season. A smooth mover and shows some technical refinement to his game. Coordinated and looks to have good ball skills for the position. Was a top performer at The Opening Finals prior to his junior season, showing anticipation and ball skills in picking off a number of passes while lined up as a safety. Played subpar competition at a small private school prior to transferring to a powerhouse public school as a senior. Has not shown high-end long speed to this point and may be best fit as a safety long-term, despite being considered as a cornerback prospect to this juncture.”

Harris committed to Georgia over the summer on June 16 after an official visit earlier that month. This fall, the five-star has played on both sides of the ball for his 6-2 Central Red Devils, whose losses came in overtime to Opelika and on a national stage to IMG Academy. Harris leads the team with two interceptions and had 41 tackles to his name. Meanwhile, he’s also accounted for 109 kickoff return yards on special teams as well as 26 yards on two carries on offense.

On3’s Jeremy Johnson was on hand to see Harris and Central take on IMG just last month, and wrote the following:

“Harris forced an offensive pass interference on a pass thrown toward the endzone. The four-star cornerback got on top of a wide receiver and stole inside leverage putting him in a good position for a potential interception. He nearly ran the route for the wideout. It was apparent Harris had studied a lot of tape on IMG and their wideouts. Harris is more than a coverage corner. At 6 foot, 190-pounds Harris is a physical player. He played inside the tackle box a few times on Friday night. Harris came down a popped a ball loose to force a fumble that Central recovered. The four-star’s demeanor also stood out. Harris carried a stone face much of the night. He also was a constant voice communicating with Central’s defensive backfield.”

Harris is the highest rated commit for Georgia currently in the Class of 2023, one that’s ranked No. 2 in the country. The Bulldogs also have top-100 players in the country committed in Joenel Aguero, Raylen Wilson, Monroe Freeling, Troy Bowles, Bo Hughley and Pearce Spurlin.
