Add another name to Georgia’s Class of 2022, as Grovetown (Augusta, Georgia) cornerback Marcus Washington has announced his intentions to reclassify from the Class of 2023 and will now join the Bulldogs this summer.

He initially committed to the Bulldogs on May 15, 2021.

Ranked as the nation’s No. 66 overall player in the Class of 2023, Washington becomes the thirtieth member of Georgia’s 2022 signing class.

Washington was also previously ranked as the nation’s No. 6 cornerback and No. 4 player in the Peach State for the 2023 class.

A Georgia legacy, Washington is the son of former Dawgs linebacker Marcus Washington, the current defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach at Grovetown.

The younger Washington just wrapped up his official visit with the Bulldogs this past weekend.

National insight on Marcus Washington

On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons offered up the following on Georgia’s newest 2022 addition:

“Washington is a great athlete. I’ve gotten to see him before all of the offers and attention at the MVP Camp, then I’ve seen him since, he’s been the same young man.

He has a great grip on the mental side of things, and the national talent is there.

He is an explosive athlete with length and awareness in the secondary. He projects as a corner, but he has the ability and skill set to play almost anywhere in Georgia’s defensive backfield.

What I like most about Washington is his drive. He wants to compete. He is not complacent, and he is only going to get better. Getting him on campus earlier than expected helps him and Georgia. Both will benefit from this.”

Georgia’s 2022 defensive back class

Washington joins fellow Georgia defensive back signees Julian Humphrey, Malaki Starks, Daylen Everette, Jacorey Thomas, and Jaheim Singletary.

Georgia’s 2023 class

The Bulldogs now hold eight commits for the Class of 2023 with Washington reclassifying.

Justyn Rhett is now the lone defensive back commit for the Dawgs in the cycle.
