Another Georgia defensive lineman is off the board in the NFL Draft, as former Bulldog Devonte Wyatt has been picked No. 28 by the Green Bay Packers in the first round.

Wyatt, a native of Decatur, Georgia and an alumnus of Towers High School, spent four years with the Bulldogs after arriving from a junior freshman season at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas.

An On3 Consensus four-star prospect, Wyatt ranked as the nation’s No. 290 overall prospect coming out of high school, the No. 25 overall defensive lineman, and the No. 30 prospect in the Peach State for the Class of 2017.

In his Georgia career, Wyatt featured in 49 contests for the Bulldogs, totaling 113 tackles during that time including 12 tackles for loss. He was also responsible for five sacks, two forced fumbles, and three pass deflections over his tenure in Athens.

Wyatt’s senior campaign, including 14 games played, seven tackles for loss, and two-and-half sacks, caught the attention of scouts, but his outstanding performances at both the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine boosted his stock to levels previously not considered for the fifth-year senior.

On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power offered up his take on Wyatt’s eye-catching combine performance:

“Wyatt proved to be an exceptional mover at 6-foot-3, 304 pounds. He edged out Davis in the 40-yard dash, posting a 4.77 time with a 1.66 second 10-yard split. The Decatur (Ga.) Towers product also posted a 29 inch vertical and 9’3″ broad jump. His on-field drills were as dominant as the workout. Wyatt showed astounding fluidity and change of direction.”

Wyatt is the fourth selection from the Bulldogs of the 2022 NFL draft, as he joins fellow former Dawgs Travon Walker, Jordan Davis, and now fellow Packer Quay Walker.
