ATHENS, Ga. — Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins is going to be sidelined for Georgia’s second game of the season on Saturday, and it looks like the absence could be even longer. The third-year defensive lineman reportedly had surgery on his foot this week and was seen on a scooter with a boot on his left foot as he entered Sanford Stadium.

Ingram-Dawkins missed time during the preseason with a previous foot injury. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart described the injury on the first day of fall camp as a “navicular foot issue” and went on to say that it was not a break, rather a stress reaction. It is unclear at this time whether the two are related.

Ingram-Dawkins did not record a tackle in the season-opening win over UT-Martin last week but did see the field for 10 snaps according to Pro Football Focus.

Ingram-Dawkins saw action in 14 of 15 games last season, totaling 10 stops including 1.5 for lost yardage. He also had six quarterback pressures. The Gafney, S.C. native was particularly impressive in Georgia’s win over then-No. 1 ranked Tennessee with a fumble recovery and other important plays in the victory over the Vols. He had multiple tackles in two of Georgia’s first three games last season (Oregon and South Carolina). Later in the year, he recorded a tackle in three straight contests including the impressive performance against Tennessee. Then, to close out the year, Ingram-Dawkins once again had consecutive games with stops, coming in the College Football Playoffs against Ohio State and TCU.

“Some of those guys weren’t really high-ranked recruits when they came in here, and they got developed by Tray, who I think is as good of a defensive line coach as I’ve ever worked with,” co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp said last fall of defensive line coach Tray Scott, mentioning the development of Ingram-Dawkins specifically. “I’d put Tyrion and Nazir (Stackhouse) and our entire room in Tray’s hands and let him develop those guys as we continue to move forward. I’ve seen improvements, drastically, in my time with Nazir and obviously Tyrion last fall a little bit, and he made huge strides in the spring.”

All of this came on the heels of a freshman season in which Ingram-Dawkins redshirted, playing in just one game. He recorded two total tackles against Charleston Southern and was considered a potential breakout Bulldog with losses on the defensive line.
