ATHENS, Ga. — The transfer portal is open for business, and those that enter are lining up their visits. ESPN’s Max Olsen reports that Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is expected to make a trip to check out the Bulldogs later this week. DawgsHQ’s Rusty Mansell shared similar information earlier in the day with Georgia expected to pursue the priority portal prospect hard.

Singleton, who just finished his sophomore season on The Flats and has two years of eligibility remaining, is expected to be one of the biggest names in the transfer portal this offseason. The speedster out of Douglasville, Ga. totaled 104 catches for 1,468 yards and 16 scores in two seasons with the Yellow Jackets. That included a team-high 56 grabs this year after finishing second in voting for ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023.

In November, Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key raved about his standout WR.

“His development as a true receiver, it’s been great to see, to watch the chemistry he has with the quarterback, the way he affects others around him, his work ethic,” Key said.

“I think he’s grown so much as a receiver, but also so much emotionally. Being able to have a drop, be able to put it behind him, move on to the next one, then make a big play later on down the road.”

Singleton was recruited to Georgia Tech by current UGA running backs coach Josh Crawford, and their connection is thought to be among the biggest factors in why the Bulldogs are an immediate contender for his talents. Add in the fact that Georgia is losing at least five receivers from its scholarship count (Rara Thomas – dismissed, Colbie Young – eligibility, Dominic Lovett – eligibility, Michael Jackson III – transfer, Nitro Tuggle – transfer) with potentially more to come, and it’s obvious that adding pass catchers is a priority in Athens.

More on the transfer portal…

The NCAA student-athlete transfer portal launched in 2018. It marked a change from when student-athletes had to get a release from their school to transfer to another and they could be limited as to where they transferred. The portal allows student athletes to simply notify their current school and its compliance department that they intend to move on to another program.

Last season, Georgia lost 21 scholarship players to the portal, watching several end up at power conference programs around the country. The Bulldogs did add to their talent however, as they’ve done before. Adding to the likes of Lawrence CagerTre McKittyDerion KendrickTykee SmithDominic Lovett and others that have joined the program in the past, UGA brought in Trevor EtienneColbie YoungLondon HumphreysBen YurosekXzavier McLeod and others that have had an impact on the Bulldogs’ 2024 campaign.
