Georgia Basketball fell for a fifth straight game, losing 78-75 to Arkansas on the road Saturday night. The Bulldogs fall to 14-10 on the season and 4-7 in SEC play.

Silas Demary led Georgia in scoring with 19. It’s the second-most for the freshman. Demary was joined in double figures by Justin Hill and Russell Tchewa who had 18 and 10 respectively.

On the other side, five different Arkansas played topped 10 points, led by El Ellis (15) and Keyon Meinfield Jr (15). Makhi Mitchell added 14 while Tramon Mark (13) and Jalen Graham (11) contributed to the winning effort as well.

How It Happened…

Freshman Silas Demary led Georgia in scoring in the first half as he poured in 10 of UGA’s 29. He made three of his first four attempts from field including the Bulldogs’ only make from 3-point range.

Aside from the poor shooting from the deep (1-of-12), Georgia’s biggest issues in the first half were turnovers and a lack of production from the bench. UGA gave it up seven times, turning into 12 points for Arkansas, and the Razorback bench outscored the Bulldogs’ 21-4.

Trailing 34-29 at the break, Georgia watched its deficit grow to as many as 12 early in the second half, but things turned around. Jalen DeLoach made three straight layups, and freshmen Dylan James and Blue Cain hit back-to-back 3-pointers to get UGA back within a single possession with 11:22 to go. Justin Hill tied things with a pair of free throws, and things stayed close thanks to a trio of UGA runs of six straight or better.

Georgia and Arkansas were tied five times before taking the lead on a 3-pointer from Hill. The senior guard put the Dawgs back on top with 3:18 to go with a pair of free throws after Arkansas’ Tramon Mark made two as well. It was the first of six lead changes and another tie before the 1:00 mark.

Arkansas’ Makhi Mitchell made a layup with under a minute to go to give the Razorbacks the lead. Cain had a 3-pointer attempt with an opportunity to tie the game at 75 before missing and allowing Arkansas to seal the deal at the free throw line.

After two games on the road this week, Georgia is back at home for its next outing. Bulldog fans will have to wait however as UGA is off in the midweek. Their next game is next Saturday as Florida makes the return trip to Athens in a rematch of the January 27th overtime game that went the way of the Gators. Tip time for the matchup is set for 1:00 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
