DawgsHQ’s Palmer Thombs broke the news earlier this week that Georgia will opt in to having recruits in the stands vs Florida this season. It’s a big deal, because the Dawgs and Gators didn’t do that in years past.

They could have, but Georgia will finally take the opportunity to do it. Presumably, the Gators will follow suit when they are the home team in Jacksonville next season.

Palmer and I had a lot to say about this, mostly because Kirby Smart’s had even more to say about it.

Is it a compromise? Is it beneficial to Georgia at all? Does it help the Gators more?

My ultimate take is that it doesn’t matter. But why take my word for it?

I also spoke with former Florida high school football recruit and Damn Good Dawg Aaron Murray on the episode for his take.

Kirby Smart wants to recruit traditionally.

This solution is still not recruiting traditionally.

The schools do make a lot of money because of the game’s neutral site nature. And I’m all for the tradition of the game.

But if Kirby Smart wants a different outcome, he will not stop until that outcome materializes, or until he is no longer coaching.

Murray was kind of torn on the subject. He dominated his home-state Gators in Jacksonville. I really appreciated his perspective on it, and enjoyed hearing about his upcoming gig at ESPN as an analyst.

I think you will, too.

Catchin’ up with the coordinators and checkin in on Georgia football practice

Palmer and I also got a glimpse of Georgia football practice this week, and we sum up our findings on the show this week as well.

We’d also heard from co-defensive coordinators Will Muschamp and Glenn Schumann when we recorded (but not Todd Monken or Dell McGee, as we did later in the week).

We shared some nuggets for free on the podcast, but also encourage you to sign up if you aren’t already a premium subscriber.

These limited deals don’t grow on trees.

Palmer and I were thrilled to hear from some coordinators and assistants this week, because we so rarely get the opportunity to do it.

Definitely check out the podcast for our reactions to that. If you want the full context, read up on Palmer’s reactions here and here.

I also provided some ‘press conference translation’ on the defensive guys and the offensive guys for your entertainment.

If you’d rather watch it straight, or want to do that as well, subscribe to the DawgsHQ YouTube Channel for the full pressers.
