LIVE UPDATES: No. 1 Georgia 51, No. 20 Kentucky 13 - FINAL
ATHENS, Ga. — It’s a top-20 showdown in Athens today, a crisp, fall Saturday afternoon in the Classic City, as Georgia hosts Kentucky. Both the top-ranked Bulldogs and No. 20 Wildcats enter the contest at 5-0 on the season, vying for positioning in the SEC East and the inside track at the divisions spot in the conference championship game later this season. Also on the line is a 22-game win streak for Georgia, a stretch of 22 straight the Bulldogs have won at home and 13 consecutive matchups between the Dawgs and Cats that have gone the way of Georgia.
“With that, I also want to mention this week’s game against Kentucky. Which is, obviously, a huge game at night,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said on Monday. “The team is going to be wearing the green decals, calling the attention to mental health week, which is going on this week. And we’re in partnership with Hilinski’s Hope. Student-athlete mental health has become a huge issue, and we deal with it day in and day out with our players. I certainly think it’s more prevalent now than it’s ever been before, so we’ll acknowledge that with those decals. They’ll be part of the uniform Saturday night.
“Looking forward to playing a really physical Stoops team. Every time we play these guys, they’re physical. When Coach Richt was here, it was physical. Kentucky-Georgia is just a physical, physical football game. Because they brand their football behind that, and so do we. I have a lot of respect for Coach Stoops and the program he’s built and the job they’ve done.”
Last week, Georgia won 27-20 over Auburn in its first road game of the season. The Bulldogs needed to come from behind twice, including once in the second half, not taking their first lead until the fourth quarter on Brock Bowers’ 40-yard touchdown. Meanwhile, Kentucky took down a previously-ranked Florida squad behind a big day from running back Ray Davis as he rushed for 280 yards and three scores on 26 carries.
Kickoff time for tonight’s game is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Sean McDonough, Greg McElroy and Molly McGrath will be on the call. Until then, DawgsHQ has you covered with all the pregame reads you could need.
