The 2023 SEC Media Days take place in Nashville this year. It’ll run from Monday, July 17 to Thursday, July 20. Kirby Smart and Georgia will have their chance to speak on Tuesday, July 18 according to an announcement from the Southeastern Conference.

The Bulldogs will share that day with a couple of new head coaches, Auburn’s Hugh Freeze and Mississippi State’s Zach Arnett. Those are the only two new head coaches to the league in 2023. Vanderbilt and head coach Clark Lea will also have their time that day.

Freeze is back in the SEC after spending four seasons at Liberty. Ole Miss fired him after the 2016 season when it was revealed that he had contacted escort services from his school-issued cell phone.

Georgia is coming off back-to-back National Championships for the first time in school history. It’s also the first team a chance has had a chance to three-peat in the playoff era.

It was at 2022 SEC Media Days in Atlanta where Smart, in his opening statement, set the tone for Georgia’s repeat bid.

“It means aggression. It goes back to last night’s statement: if we’re aggressive then we’re not being hunted,” Smart said. “We’re on the attack. We’re on the prowl. We’re trying to be the lion in the jungle that wants to be the king of the jungle, and there’s only one way to do that. It’s not on Saturdays, it’s not on TV, it’s every day. It’s a work ethic that you’ve got to believe in.”

“We’ve spent a lot of time trying to explain how the mighty fall,” Smart continued. “The mighty fall because of not having humility, because of not being where your feet are, not understanding what got you there, not being coachable. So, we’ll continue to sell that, and the right kids will hopefully buy into it.”

That mentality served Georgia quite well. It became just the third team in NCAA history to go 15-0. Despite losing five first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, all on defense, and 15 overall, the Bulldogs still had one of the nation’s top defenses while the offense took a giant step forward. Georgia averaged over 40 points per game for just the second time in program history.
