ATHENS, Ga. — Top-ranked Georgia welcomes UAB to town this week for a quick return to non-conference play. The battle between the Bulldogs and Blazers represents the final tune up for Kirby Smart’s team before seven straight games against SEC competition starting next week at Auburn.

“Obviously UAB. We’re moving on to UAB and I’m excited to play these guys. I’ve known Coach Dilfer for a while. I don’t have a personal relationship with him, but I do think a lot of him as a coach, their staff, I know a lot of guys on their staff. Eddie, who was here with us for a long time, does an incredible job, and looking forward to playing those guys this week,” Smart said. “They have some good football players and really good athletes. I don’t think the record indicates that, but they play and you watch them, and I’m like, man, defensively they do some four-down and some three-down. They’ve got really good backs, got good skill players, athletic quarterback who extends plays. They play really hard. They had a weird situation the other night with ULL, they had rain delay and different things in there, but they got a very talented football team, especially in their conference.”

Georgia and UAB last played in 2021 during the second week of the season. Starting quarterback at the time JT Daniels was injured and replaced by Stetson Bennett for the day as the backup threw five touchdowns in the first half on the way to a 56-7 Bulldog victory.

Kickoff time today at Sanford Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Pregame

  • Earnest Greene wearing the No. 77 jersey tonight.
  • Dylan Fairchild announced as a starter on offense on the videoboard. Warren Brinson also in there with no Williams (although four defensive linemen were announced and UGA never plays that many at one time).
  • Full team has emerged for warm ups: Kendall Milton, Roderick Robinson, DeNylon Morrissette, Javon Bullard, EJ Lightsey not in uniform. Mykel Williams also not out there.
  • Offensive lineman Austin Blaske going through warm ups with the centers. Kirby Smart had told us to expect him back, but there’s the confirmation. Now it’s a matter of whether or not he’s part of that first-team rotation on the offensive line post-MCL sprain.
  • Red jerseys for Georgia players during warm ups for those that were concerned and/or interested.
  • Marvin Jones Jr. missed last week’s game against South Carolina due to an illness. He is out there and going through warmups with the outside linebackers.
  • Speaking of freshmen dressing out in a return from injury, cornerback Chris Peal is going through warm ups. He had been dealing with turf toe up to this point.
  • Tight end Lawson Luckie does appear to be dressing for tonight as he goes through initial warm ups. Would be the season debut for the freshman tight end after he underwent tight rope ankle surgery during fall camp.
  • Safety Javon Bullard not dressing out tonight but it does appear that he no longer has a boot on his injured left foot.
