Apparently it really is never too early to start talking about preseason watch lists and All American teams. The calendar hasn’t quite flipped to April yet but The Walter Camp Foundation has already named its preseason All American team and it includes one Georgia player on the first team and three on the second team.

You could probably guess the first-team selection. That would be junior tight end Brock Bowers. The Napa, Calif. native is coming off two straight seasons where he led the Bulldogs in receptions, yards, and receiving touchdowns. He also won the Mackey Award as the nation’s top tight end.

He had 63 catches for 942 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore. Bowers added nine carries for 109 yards and three touchdowns, making him the first tight end in school history to go for over 1,000 total yards in a season.

As a freshman in 2021, Bowers hauled in 56 passes for 882 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. He added 56 more yards and a touchdown on four carries.

Georgia players on the second team…

All of the Bulldogs on the second team are on the defensive side of the ball and they are at each at a different level of the defense. Sophomore defensive end Mykel Williams is on the list after leading Georgia in sacks as a freshman with 4.5. He was a five-star prospect in the 2022 class and UGA’s top-rated signee according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Williams is also out for the rest of spring drills. He suffered a foot injury in week two of spring practice and it was an injury that required surgery. The Columbus, Ga. native is expected to make a full recovery by early summer.

Junior inside linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson is also on the second team after finishing second on the team in tackles in his first season as a starter. Dumas-Johnson had 70 total stops and a team leading nine tackles for loss. He added four sacks, seven quarterback pressures, and three passes defended.

Sophomore safety Malaki Starks is Georgia’s third member of the second team. His 68 tackles were good for No. 3 on the team. He had a tackle and a half for loss, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions. He started the 2022 season off with a bang with an interception in the first quarter of his first collegiate game against Oregon.
