Georgia had two openings on its coaching staff when the weekend began and both have now been filled. The program announced Monday that James Coley is the new wide receivers coach and Josh Crawford is the new running backs coach and run-game coordinator.

DawgsHQ confirmed on Saturday that Coley was set to be hired. We also confirmed Sunday that Crawford, barring something unexpected, would be stepping in at the running backs coach spot. The Bulldogs now have a full staff with spring drills 15 days away.

This is Coley’s second stint at Georgia. He was a part of Kirby Smart‘s initial staff in Athens where he coached wideouts for the first time in his career. After spending two seasons with the receivers, Coley moved to quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator. He was responsible for putting the Bulldogs’ third-down plan together each week and called the offense on that down, helping Georgia to the nation’s No. 10 third-down conversion rate.

When Jim Chaney left for Tennessee after the 2018 season, Coley was promoted to offensive coordinator. The Bulldogs struggled offensively in 2019 and Coley was essentially demoted to make from for Todd Monken to come in as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Texas A&M hired Coley in for the 2020 season and he spent four years in College Station. Coley has also worked at Miami, Florida State, and FIU in his career.

Crawford has three years under his belt as an on-field coach at the college level. He spent two seasons at Western Kentucky, coaching receivers in both of those years and co-coordinating the offense in the second. He was hired at Georgia Tech in 2023 where he worked under Brent Key.

The Alabama native has a graduate degree from UGA that he earned in 2012 and has coached high school ball all over the state with stops at Greater Atlanta Christian, Jefferson County, Lee County, Valdosta High, and two stops at Colquitt County.
