Georgia football to wear black jerseys vs. Oregon? Fans decipher graphic
Leave it to Georgia football fans to decipher the ‘clues’ of a cartoon social media graphic.
Some of these eagle-eyed Dawgs fans just happen to think the pixels reveal an entire story about Georgia’s uniform choice vs. Oregon.
We learned on Tuesday that Georgia’s season-opener vs. Oregon on September 3rd will kick off at 3:30PM on ABC. The game is part of Chick-Fil-A’s annual Kickoff event at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Of course, Georgia football shared its own stylized version of the announcement on social media.
The Dawgs’ graphic team went with a brilliant reference to the classic NES ‘Duck Hunt’ game.
You know the one. If you pop a couple ducks in flight, the dog pops up from behind the grass with joyon its face and ducks in its hands.
Or, you miss a duck with that clunky orange gun. And the hunting dog pops up on the screen to laugh at you.
Here’s a healthy dose of nostalgia:
I couldn’t help but laugh at the mental image of Uga going on a ‘Duck Hunt’
‘Ducks vs. Dawgs’ works well from an alliterative, phonetic standpoint.
I don’t give it high marks from a ‘realism’ standpoint, as mascot matchups go.
‘Yeah brother, I’ll scoop up your birds for ya. Just make sure you land ’em riiiiiiight up next to my ice bag. Appreciate ya.’
Does Oregon have a live mascot? That could get messy, as everyone who’s wandered to the banks of a duck pond (and their shoes) can attest.
If there is an actual quacker on the sideline at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, at least Uga will be safer than he was against Bevo before the Sugar Bowl loss to Texas.
But for the purposes of Georgia’s social media post, I’ll grant the reference.
Ducks. Dawgs. On the hunt. I get it.
These Dawgs will hunt… in black jerseys?
As you’ll notice (or already noticed) in the clip Georgia Football posted, Hairy Dawg wears a black jersey.

I didn’t think much of it. Maybe the ‘Duck Hunt’ reference swept me off my feet in a wave of old school vibes.
Leave it to Georgia fans with an appetite for alternate uniforms, though.
Dawgs fans will turn any clue into evidence that Georgia will break out those hidden gems. And I don’t blame them, because they look incredible.
But your team just won a Natty without wearing black jerseys one time all season.
You’re already going back to the highly-sought-after block numbers.
Is it really a big deal if the Dawgs open the season in black jerseys?
Just because Oregon obsesses over alternate uniform combinations, does that mean Georgia should stoop to that level?
Yes. Yes, it’s a big deal.
Uga is a huntin’ dawg. And he wants to wear black.
Let the summer of speculation begin.
