Georgia has seen its fair share of assistant coaches, both on and off-field, take jobs elsewhere under Kirby Smart. It is now bringing one of those guys back to the program in Blaine Miller.

Miller took to twitter Sunday night to announce a return to Athens. His twitter bio says that he will be working with inside linebackers where Glenn Schumann is currently the position coach in addition to being the team’s co-defensive coordinator and play-caller.

It’s the third time that Miller has worked with Smart and Schumann. Those three were on the Alabama staff together in 2015. Then Miller made the jump with Smart to Georgia in 2016 where he spent three seasons and helped the Bulldogs win an SEC Championship in 2017.

When Mel Tucker, who also made the move from Alabama to Georgia with Smart, took the head coaching job at Colorado after the 2018 season, Miller followed as a defensive graduate assistant. Tucker only spent one season in Boulder before leaving for Michigan State.

At that point Miller transitioned to an on-field coaching role at the junior college level. He worked at East Central Community College (Decatur, Miss.) for the 2020 season. Faulkner University came calling at the end of that season and hired Miller as its defensive coordinator.

Miller was also the team’s assistant head coach, linebackers coach, and recruiting coordinator for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

“Miller was Rob Gray’s first new addition to his inaugural defensive staff, after the two had previously worked together at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and the former had opportunities to learn from some of the greatest defensive minds in the sport,” Miller’s Faulkner University bio says. “Miller also coached linebackers in 2021, including two Second Team All Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division seniors in Antonio Gurley and Phillip Russell, who combined for 101 tackles.”

Other support staff additions for Georgia…

The Bulldogs made big news earlier this offseason when they added a pair of veteran offensive coaches to their support staff, both of whom were offensive coordinators in 2022.

Brandon Streeter joined the Georgia staff after serving as Clemson’s offensive coordinator for one season and its quarterbacks coach for eight seasons. He spent 15 seasons with the Tigers in all if you count his playing career and time as an off-field coach. Clemson fired Streeter after one season as offensive coordinator and hired Garrett Riley away from TCU.

Smart also tapped Darrell Dickey to join his staff from Texas A&M. Dickey was the Aggies offensive coordinator in title last season as Jimbo Fisher called the plays. Dickey is a former head coach, holding the post at North Texas for nine years. He has also worked at Mississippi State and LSU while coaching running backs, tight ends, and quarterbacks at various stops.
