Georgia added a massive piece to its 2025 class on Friday, allowing it to jump from No. 5 to No. 3 in the On3 Industry team rankings. Savannah Christian (Savannah, Ga.) defensive lineman Elijah Griffin chose the Bulldogs over Miami and USC.

Tray Scott spearheaded the effort to land Griffin, a recruitment that started when he was in the eighth grade. A look at his junior highlights shows why he’s so highly ranked and highly coveted.

At 6-foot-4 300 pounds, Griffin is the nation’s No. 5 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman. He’s also the top prospect in the Peach State. The Bulldogs now have commitments from three of the top players in Georgia and four of the top seven.

Griffin becomes the Bulldogs 23rd commitment in the 2025 class. He’s also Georgia’s third defensive line commitment for the cycle. With Griffin in the fold, Georgia now has the nation’s No. 1 defensive lineman, No. 1 EDGE and No. 1 linebacker. Isaiah Gibson (Warner Robins; Warner Robins, Ga.) is the nation’s top EDGE and Zayden Walker (Schley County; Ellaville, Ga.) is the top linebacker.

Georgia built a strong relationship with the elite defender and that made all the difference in the end. The long recruitment gave the Bulldogs a chance to make sure Griffin understood the program’s recent history at the position.

“It’s just the relationships that I have and the development that they’ve had over the past few years with the top defensive lineman going first round like Devonte Wyatt, Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter all those guys in my position. I’ve seen those guys work. I was in the eighth grade and not really knowing who they were, to see the now part of it puts it in a different perspective for me.”
