Georgia Football takes the field today at Sanford Stadium against the Samford Bulldogs for the home opener of the 2022 season. Kirby Smart and company, ranked No. 2 in the nation after a dominant performance against the Oregon Ducks last week in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, will look to put on a show for the home crowd on what’s expected to be less than ideal weather day in The Classic City.

Georgia only goes two-deep in most positions for the depth chart released in the press box on Saturday but expect more than that to play in this one. DawgsHQ shares the flip card depth chart with you below. Be warned, however, that it contains “or” quite a few times.

Georgia quarterback

  1. Stetson Bennett
  2. Carson Beck
  3. Brock Vandagriff

Bennett had a career-high passing yards total last week and will look to build on that against an FCS opponent, at least for as long as he’s in the game. Beck also got a little bit of action last week, but don’t be surprised to see some of Vandagriff and Stockton either this Saturday.

UGA running backs

  1. Kenny McIntosh OR Kendall Milton
  2. Daijun Edwards

Like quarterback, there’s little to no surprise here as McIntosh and Milton have been the leaders of that room all offseason in its efforts to replace Zamir White and James Cook. McIntosh led the team in receiving last week with nine catches for over 100 yards. Meanwhile, Milton was the top rusher.

Georgia wide receivers (X)

  1. Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
  2. Adonai Mitchell

Interesting to see Rosemy-Jacksaint listed as the solo starter here. List week there was an “or” between him and Mitchell. I wouldn’t read too much into that. Rosemy-Jacksaint gives Georgia a great blocking option with some pass catching ability while Mitchell is one of the team’s best receivers that has shown some blocking ability too.

UGA wide receivers (Slot)

  1. Kearis Jackson OR Dominick Blaylock
  2. Mekhi Mews

Expect Jackson to get the starting nod here but today could be a big one for Blaylock with plenty of opportunities to continue to get back into gear after his pair of ACL injuries early in his career.

UGA wide receivers (Z)

  1. Ladd McConkey
  2. Dillon Bell
  3. De’Nylon Morrissette

McConkey had a big game last week for Georgia with a pair of touchdowns while Kirby Smart has praised both Bell and Morrissette as guys that can give the Dawgs some depth at receiver. Could be a big day for them today with starters likely out early.

Georgia tight ends

  1. Brock Bowers OR Darnell Washington
  2. Arik Gilbert
  3. Oscar Delp

This group is absolutely loaded and any one of these four could be starters on another team. Still, somebody’s got to be listed as the No. 1 for Georgia and that goes to Bowers/Washington. Regardless, all four can be weapons, potentially seeing playing time together in sets with two or more tight ends.

Georgia left tackles

  1. Broderick Jones
  2. Amarius Mims

Jones is listed as the solo starter here after sharing that title last week, at least on the depth chart, with Mims. Interestingly, when Georgia went to a second left tackle, it was Warren McClendon, not Mims that got the nod. We’ll have to see how that shakes out this week as the Bulldogs continue to find their best five offensive linemen.

UGA left guards

  1. Xavier Truss OR Devin Willock

Only two guys are listed on the depth chart at left guard and they share the starting title with an “or” separating their names. Truss got the start last week and played more than Willock. Expect that to still be the case this week, although there are options here.

Georgia centers

  1. Sedrick Van Pran
  2. Warren Ericson

While Georgia rotated through several different looks on the offensive line in the first half of last week’s game, one thing was constant. That was Van Pran in the middle at center. Don’t think that’ll change as he’s a leader for Georgia, not only on the offensive line but the team as a whole.

UGA right guards

  1. Tate Ratledge OR Jared Wilson

Like left guard, only two players listed here with them sharing the title. Ratledge got the go last week. Wilson was in the game later to get some looks. Expect something similar to play out this week.

Georgia right tackles

  1. Warren McClendon OR Amarius Mims

Georgia rotated these two at right tackle last week with Mims coming in for McClendon on the third drive of the game. McClendon is the expected starter, but Mims is going to do everything in his power to make that a tough decision.

Georgia defensive ends

  1. Tramel Walthour OR Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins OR Mykell Williams

This will be an interesting position to watch as all three of the top options are listed with an “or” between their names. Williams started last week in his collegiate debut. Kirby Smart said that he’ll have to continue to earn that spot. Let’s see how it plays out this week.

UGA nose tackles

  1. Zion Logue
  2. Nazir Stackhouse

Interestingly, Logue is listed as the starter for a second straight week but it was Stackhouse that started last week. As they prepare the video board announcements and test them in the stadium, it was Stackhouse that got announced. Pay attention to that, but both will plau.

Georgia defensive tackles

  1. Jalen Carter
  2. Warren Brinson
  3. Bill Norton

Carter is the among the best players in the country with an opportunity to earn himself some money this season, but he can’t do it all for the defensive line. Brinson and Norton will have to provide some depth.

UGA SAM linebackers

  1. Nolan Smith
  2. MJ Sherman
  3. Marvin Jones Jr. or Darris Smith

Smith is the veteran and leader of the defense. Sherman, like Smith, was a five star coming out of high school and is still waiting for his turn to impress. He’ll have to hold off the talented freshmen that are behind him.

UGA JACK linebackers

  1. Robert Beal Jr.
  2. Chaz Chambliss

Beal led Georgia in sacks last season while Chambliss has come on strong as a sophomore, impressing teammates with his work ethic.

Georgia MONEY linebackers

  1. Jamon Dumas-Johnson
  2. Rian Davis
  3. Jalon Walker

Dumas-Johnson is the inside linebacker we’ve heard the most about ahead of the 2022 season and he made his first career start last week. Davis is a veteran while Walker is on the opposite end of the spectrum as a true freshman.

UGA MAC linebackers

  1. Smael Mondon
  2. Trezmen Marshall
  3. Xavian Sorey

Inside linebacker is a position where Georgia is going to rotate, but Mondon will get the first nod. He played the most out of the group last week and is athletic enough to be the best of them. Big week for Mondon.

Georgia left cornerbacks

  1. Kelee Ringo
  2. Nyland Green

Ringo is expected to be the starter all season here and it’ll be interesting to watch if Georgia decides to rotate at all. Green has hamstring that’s bothering him, so he could be limited, in which case freshmen Jaheim Singletary or Julian Humphrey could get the second-team reps.

UGA’s strong safeties

  1. Christopher Smith
  2. David Daniel-Sisavanh

Smith is the leader of the secondary and showed that last week as he came up with a big play. Expect big things from him this season.

Georgia free safeties

  1. Dan Jackson
  2. Malaki Starks

Jackson got the start last week but it was Starks that made the highlight reel play with an athletic interception. Both will play, but this could be a position battle to watch as the season goes along.

UGA right cornerbacks

  1. Kamari Lassiter or William Poole

Once again, Poole is listed as a co-starter at cornerback, even though he didn’t see any action there last week. Lassiter made his first career start before giving way to Daylen Everette.

STAR

  1. William Poole or Javon Bullard or Tykee Smith

Bullard ended up seeing the most action at STAR last week but all three played. On the preparations for video board pregame, Bullard was announced as the starter. We’ll see if that’s how it plays out.
