Report: School officials eyeballing more neutral sites for Georgia vs. Florida in future

Everbank Field was the site of a Georgia win on Saturday as the Bulldogs dominated the Gators 43-20. The game will be played there again in 2024 and 2025 but with the Jacksonville Jaguars looking at stadium renovations in 2026 and 2027, the game will be moved.
Most thought that it would be moved to a home-and-home series for a couple of years just like in 1994 and 1995, but that’s not likely according to a report from Mark Long of the Associated Press. Long reports that school officials are looking at other NFL-ready sites that can potentially bid on The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
The AP’s report says that a home-and-home hasn’t been ruled out just yet, but Atlanta is a logical spot, likely for when Georgia is the designated home team. When Florida is in that role, Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. or Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Fla. are possibilities. The two schools are able to make more money playing the game at a neutral site every year than what they would make by playing the game at home every other year.

Each team made around $4.5 million by playing the game in Jacksonville this season. The city pays each team $1.25 million up front for the game and also foots the bill for travel expenses with a healthy stipend ($350,000 for Georgia and $60,000 for Florida). The two teams then get to split the gate, which comes out to be about $3.3 million each.
The Georgia – Florida game has been played in Jacksonville since 1933 outside of that previously-mentioned two-year hiatus. Georgia has won six of the last seven and three in a row but it’s a series full of streaks as the Gators dominated a 20-year period that covered the 1990s and the 2000s.
