Georgia freshman report: 14 first-year Bulldogs play vs. Tech
The 2022 regular season is over for Georgia and for the second straight year, the Bulldogs are undefeated. They topped Georgia Tech 37-14 on Saturday at Sanford Stadium. They honored a big group of seniors and sent them off the right way — with a perfect record against the in-state rival.
The Bulldogs also got 14 true freshmen in the game. Below, DawgsHQ offers a list of the true freshmen who played and how they fared against the Yellow Jackets.
RB Branson Robinson (8 snaps): After not playing at all against Kentucky for only the second game this season, Robinson got six carries against the Yellow Jackets. He used those carries to pick up 26 yards.
WR Dillon Bell (20 snaps): The freshman pass catcher didn’t catch a pass last week but he did have one this week. It went for eight yards and it was a nice grab with a Tech defender on his back to convert a third down.
TE Oscar Delp (7 snaps): Delp didn’t get targeted in the game but he did throw a couple of nice blocks in the run game. He led the way for a Brock Bowers’ jet sweep that was called back due to a face mask by the runner.
DE Mykel Williams (29 snaps): He only had one tackle and it was an assist behind the line of scrimmage but Williams played really well. He held up nicely against the run and is getting better and better each week at getting into the backfield and making plays.
DL Bear Alexander (12 snaps): The Texas native notched the first sack of his career in the fourth quarter. He got more than one strong rush on the quarterback and continues to show improvement in dealing with blocks.
OLB Darris Smith (special teams): He played for the second straight games but didn’t get a chance to do anything on defense. Smith is on Georgia’s kickoff team and other special teams.
OLB Marvin Jones Jr. (5 snaps): Jones is on Georgia’s punt return team but he also got some defensive work this week. He used five snaps to notch his first career sack but he left the game with a sprained ankle.

ILB E.J. Lightsey (2 snaps): We saw the Fitzgerald, Ga. native enter the game in the fourth quarter but he did not register on the stat sheet.
S Malaki Starks (54 snaps): Starks was more active near the line of scrimmage in this one. He had a half tackle for loss, his first stop behind the line of scrimmage this season, and four total tackles. Starks also gave up a big play when he rotated over to cover an outside receiver who ran a double move.
S JaCorey Thomas (7 snaps): He entered the game late but did not register on the stat sheet.
CB Daylen Everette (13 snaps): Everette had four total tackles and two of them were solo as he entered the game in the fourth quarter and played multiple series.
CB Julian Humphrey (6 snaps): He gave up a big play and didn’t register on the stat sheet but Humphrey saw some valuable action in the fourth quarter.
P Brett Thorson (special teams): The Australia native had one punt downed at the two-yard line. He also boomed a 51-yarder.
