It may seem like the 2023 season starter just yesterday but here we are, in the early days of December, and the SEC Championship game is upon us. For the third straight season and sixth time in seven years, Georgia is representing the east. For the third time in the past six seasons, the opponent on the other side is Alabama.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 and the Crimson Tide are ranked No. 8 and a shot at the College Football Playoff may be on the line. Georgia is favored by 5.5 points for the time being but Alabama has won each of its previous three meetings inside Saturday’s venue, Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

With the time between now and game time able to be measured by hours instead of days, Georgia has released it’s game trailer. This one is entitled “State of Mind” and it is narrated by hip-hop recording artist Quavy of The Migos. The 82-second feature shows shots of the Classic City and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It also provides clips from the current season and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo addressing the team about connection.

Georgia enters this game with a 12-0 record, the third time the Bulldogs have achieved that feat in the past three seasons. Alabama, however, was the last team to defeat UGA. It won the 2021 SEC Championship game 41-24 but later lost to the Bulldogs in the National Championship game inside Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis, Ind.) by a score of 33-18. Kirby Smart, who before becoming the head coach at Georgia spent nine years at Alabama, still has immense respect for the Crimson Tide.

“Yeah. Size, speed, toughness, aggressiveness, multiple coverages, players that can play multiple positions,” Smart said of the Bama defense on Monday. “The depth across the defensive line is one of the things that pops out of you. They roll guys, and they constantly have fresh guys in there striking, playing blocks, playing with great toughness; really good at the star position, very experienced. Got two corners that are going to be drafted that are good players; play with great safeties. I mean, they’ve got an all-around really good defense, but that’s what you would expect. I mean, you would expect nothing less from this group.”

Kickoff of the SEC Championship game is set for 4 p.m. ET. The game will be televised by CBS.
