Georgia Football: How UGA transfers have fared elsewhere in 2022
So far in the 2022 season of college football, there have been former Georgia stars all over the country putting up incredible performances for different college football teams. The transfer portal has hit the Bulldogs’ depth hard over the last few season, allowing for 24 former Bulldogs to play for a variety of different programs. From HBCUs to conference rivals, let’s take a look at what every former Dawgs has been able to produce so far this year.
JT Daniels (West Virginia)
At this point, every Bulldog fan is familiar with JT Daniels and his story. Coming out of Mater Dei High School in California, Daniels committed to the USC Trojans before transferring to Georgia. After spending time in Athens and finding some success with the Bulldogs, Daniels transferred to West Virginia and became their starting quarterback. In his six games with the Mountaineers, Daniels has completed 139 of his 218 pass attempts for 1,492 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions. So far this season, the Mountaineers are 3-3 with losses to Texas, Kansas, and Pittsburgh, but Daniels will have the opportunity to turn their season around with a matchup against Texas Tech this Saturday.
Jermaine Burton (Alabama)
In his seven games with the Crimson Tide, Jermaine Burton has caught 18 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns. While he is on pace to surpass his receptions and yardage from his freshman and sophomore seasons at Georgia, Burton is currently recording his lowest career yards per reception at 14.8. While Burton will be essential towards Alabama’s playoff push for the rest of the season, he is currently under investigation for allegedly striking a Tennessee fan following the Crimson Tide’s loss to the Volunteers last Saturday.
Matt Landers (Arkansas)
After the 2020 season, wide receiver Matt Landers entered the transfer portal and landed up with the Toledo Rockets for one season. After last year, Landers joined a familiar face in Sam Pittman with the Arkansas Razorbacks. So far on the Razorbacks this season, Landers has found a much higher volume than he ever did with the Bulldogs, pulling in 25 receptions for 360 yards and three touchdowns. Last weekend against the Brigham Young Cougars, Landers scored his first touchdown as a Razorback on this goal line reception.
Brenton Cox (Florida)
Brenton Cox parted ways with the Bulldogs coaching staff before the 2019 season, apparently leaving Athens with a bad taste in his mouth. On several occasions, Cox has taken to his Twitter account in an attempt to taunt Georgia fans, most recently tagging the Georgia football account with a caption saying, “Better get ready for me”. Over the last few seasons under former Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, Cox has been productive for the Gators, consistently proving to be one of the Gators best pass rushers. While Cox recorded an impressive eight sacks for the Gators during the 2021 season, he’s currently on pace for half of that, recording two sacks through seven games.
Jalen Kimber (Florida)
Jalen Kimber was the second of two former Bulldogs to join the Gators, leaving the Bulldogs following their National Championship victory last season. As a highly touted cornerback in the class of 2020, Kimber never saw the field much in his career with the Bulldogs as he battled off the field injuries. So far for the Gators, Kimber has played in seven games, totaling seven tackles and a pick-six against USF earlier this season.
Jaylen Johnson (East Carolina)
Jaylen Johnson was one of the many Georgia players to enter the transfer portal following the 2021 season in an effort to receive more playing time. Fortunately for the former Bulldog, he found that in East Carolina. In his five games playing for the Pirates so far this season, Johnson has caught 17 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown.
JJ Holloman (Tennessee State)
Just a few months before Georgia began their 2019 season, wide receiver JJ Holloman was dismissed from the team, citing an alleged assault that occurred in 2018. After his time with the Bulldogs, Holloman spent his 2020 season with the Florida International Tigers before joining the Tennessee State Tigers this season. In his six games so far, Holloman has caught 12 receptions for 131 yards, including this touchdown grab he hauled in against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.
Divaad Wilson (Central Florida)
Following the 2019 season, Georgia STAR and defensive back Divaad Wilson entered the transfer portal despite a productive season for the Bulldogs. Growing up in Miami, Wilson intended on moving closer to home, joining the Central Florida Golden Knights. So far during the 2022 season, Wilson has played in six games, totaling 19 tackles, two interceptions, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Earlier this season, Wilson unleashed this bone-crushing hit against the Louisville Cardinals.
Tommy Bush (North Texas)
Well, that’s a name you probably haven’t heard in a while. After joining the Bulldogs in the 2018 offseason, Tommy Bush only caught one pass for one yard in his three years with the Bulldogs. This year for the North Texas Mean Green, Bush has hauled in three receptions for 34 yards, including his first career touchdown against the UTEP Miners.
Tyrique Stevenson (Miami (FL))
Similar to Divaad Wilson, Tyrique Stevenson transferred away from the Bulldogs following a productive season, appearing to want to move closer to home. Growing up in Florida, Stevenson joined the Miami Hurricanes just one year before they hired new head coach Mario Cristobal. Unfortunately, Stevenson has gotten off to a slow start to the 2022 season, putting up only 10 tackles and one interception in five games. However, the defensive back earned a defensive player of the week honor for his performance against the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in Week 2.

Otis Reese (Ole Miss)
Out of all the former Bulldogs that have been mentioned, defensive back Otis Reese may have found the most success in his second destination. Joining the Rebels before the 2019 season, Reese has had an extremely productive career. In 2022, where Reese has gotten off to a red-hot start, totaling 37 tackles, five tackles for loss, and two sacks in seven games.
Trey Blount (Charlotte)
Trey Blount transferred away from the Bulldogs following the 2019 season where he only saw one reception in his one appearance. After spending a brief period of time at Old Dominion, Blount transferred again to the Charlotte 49ers. While he’s only played in five games hauling in two receptions for nine yards, Blount showed off his ability to pull in the ball in traffic on this preseason highlight play.
Matthew Downing (Louisiana Tech)
Although Matthew Downing was never able to land a scholarship playing for the Bulldogs, the quarterback was able to spend time playing for the TCU Horned Frogs before landing with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs for the 2022 season. So far in his three appearances with the Bulldogs, Downing has completed 21 of his 38 pass attempts for 197 yards and three interceptions, as well as this 75-yard passing touchdown against the Missouri Tigers.
