ATHENS, Ga.Kirby Smart opened spring practice on Tuesday with his regularly-scheduled meeting with reporters. He started out that press conference the way he starts out most this time of year, with a rundown of Georgia’s injury situation. Smart, at one point or another, brought up 11 names and below, DawgsHQ provides a list of those names and a rundown of what they’re dealing with.

Smart also compared the number of injuries the Bulldogs are dealing with this spring to previous years. He says that Georgia had 12 players out to start last spring and eight the spring before. Going into spring of 2022, there were 14 UGA players on the shelf.

RB Roderick Robinson (ankle): The third-year tailback battled turf toe for the entire 2024 season but was able to come back at the tail end of the season. He played against Georgia Tech but it wasn’t long after the Bulldogs beat Texas in the SEC Championship that he suffered an ankle injury that required surgery.

RB Branson Robinson (knee): It has been a rough couple of seasons for Robinson, who has now sustained three different knee injuries. He had a torn patellar tendon that took his entire 2023 season away. Then he suffered a sprained MCL during the 2024 season. While trying to come back, Robinson went down with a torn PCL that required surgery.

QB Ryan Montgomery (knee): The former four-star prospect saw his senior season end early with a torn ACL. He’s expected to be cleared in time for preseason camp.

OL Monroe Freeling (shoulder): Georgia’s starting left tackle for the final five games of the 2024 season underwent labrum-repair surgery in January. He’ll be limited this spring but Smart says his recovery is going well.

TE Colton Heinrich (shoulder): The reserve tight end also had a labrum repair in January. Heinrich saw action in four games this past season.

EDGE Gabe Harris (shoulder): The IMG Academy product is expected to step into a major role in his third season at Georgia. He, too, had labrum-repair surgery and will miss this spring.

DL Christen Miller (shoulder): The return of Miller was welcome news for Georgia this offseason but he’ll miss the spring after having labrum surgery as well. Miller suffered the injury against UMass and missed the next two games. He returned for the Sugar Bowl vs. Notre Dame.

DB Jaylan Morgan (shoulder): The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native arrived at Georgia with a torn labrum and quickly underwent surgery. He’ll also miss the entire spring.

P Brett Thorson (knee): Smart revealed that Thorson tore the ACL and MCL in his left, non-kicking knee. That happened in the SEC Championship game and Thorson had surgery in December.

DE Joseph Jonah-Ajonye (foot): The second-year defender has been out since October after foot surgery and will be limited to start spring drills. Smart, however, seems to think JJA can work his way back before the spring is over. He’s currently running and lifting with the team.

CB Daylen Everette (sports hernia): The senior and third-year starter will be limited this spring with that injury to the groin area. He’ll get some practice in and stay involved, but the Bulldogs won’t be pushing him too hard. Everette’s limitations will be opportunities for Demello Jones and Ellis Robinson Jr.

Smart also said that there are other Bulldogs battling minor ailments. The 10th-year Georgia head coach called them “soft tissue” injuries and said that none are major.
