ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia didn’t exactly explode out of the gates on Saturday but it did grab its sixth straight victory over Auburn by a score of 42-10. The Bulldogs used an explosive second half to run the Tigers out of Sanford Stadium, but the win came at a cost.

Junior running back Kendall Milton went down in the first half and did not return. Kirby Smart was askd about it after the game and provided a little insight.

“It’s groin,” Smart said afterward. “He said that he got tackled and the guy fell on him and stretched his groin out and it bothered him. I don’t know how severe it is.”

Milton didn’t get to partake in a stellar Georgia rushing effort. He had two carries for 13 yards when he suffered the injury. The Bulldogs went on to rush for 292 yards on 39 carries and when you take out the two kneel downs to end the game, they had 295 yards on 37 carries, just shy of eight yards per carry.

Unfortunately, Milton is no stranger to injuries. He suffered a sprained MCL as a freshman that caused him to miss a few games toward the end of the season. He had the same injury a season ago that, again, caused him to miss a handful of games.

The California native had a strong spring but struggled with a hamstring injury during preseason camp. That ailment, however, was out of the way in time for the start of the 2022 season. Milton entered the game as Georgia’s leading rusher on the season but with 12 carries for 83 yards, Daijun Edwards took the team lead by one yard.

Georgia WR AD Mitchell returns but dealing with new injury

The Bulldogs have been without sophomore wideout AD Mitchell since the first play of the Samford game in week two. Mitchell suffered an ankle injury on that play but he did make a return to the playing field against Auburn.

According to Smart, Mitchell probably would have played more against the Tigers if not for a different injury suffered on the practice field this week.

“Really thought he was going to be able to go, you know? Ironically, he had a thumb sprain in the week because we were using him,” Smart said. “He fell down and had a thumb sprain, and it became more of the thumb sprain than the ankle. Now, he did have a little bit of a limp, and as the game goes on, he got to the point where he’s not in it and you’re not using him, he gets cold. We tried to keep him on a bike, tried to run him. But we thought that he could have gone had we needed him. We did end up getting out to a lead, and I guess he did play a couple snaps. But it was just, we didn’t get to really use him like we normally do. We need him back.”
