Injury updates as Georgia football begins preseason practice
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia won’t practice on Wednesday but it will begin preseason camp. The Bulldogs are coming together as a team and Kirby Smart used the day to speak to reporters. The eight-year head coach was quickly asked about his team’s injury situation where he gave multiple updates.
Junior linebacker Smael Mondon and sophomore running back Branson Robinson are both dealing with similar foot injuries. According to Smart, they’re both running as preseason camp begins but they will not be practicing, at least not in full.
The two projected starters/contributors were hurt in the final couple of practices this spring. They sustained the foot injuries prior to G-Day and each needed surgery to correct the ailment. Smart added that both players are ahead of schedule based on where the staff thought they would be a month or so ago.
Update on Georgia defensive end Mykel Williams…
Mykel Williams was Georgia’s leader in sacks last season as a true freshman and he, too, had foot surgery this spring. Smart says that Williams will be practicing when the team kicks it off on Thursday but he did mention that the former five-star prospect won’t be full tilt to start out.

Williams entered spring drills with a foot injury that lingered from last season. Smart told reporters after Williams’ surgery that it was head athletic trainer Ron Courson who thought it best to shut him down and get the injury corrected.
Another foot injury…
Smart also mentioned a fourth foot injury that reporters didn’t know anything about. Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins is also battling some foot pain. Smart says that Ingram-Dawkins isn’t dealing with a broken bone of any sort.
He also indicated that the Georgia defender won’t need surgery. Smart called the injury a “stress reaction” and indicated that the medical staff will monitor Ingram-Dawkins through the early practices. The Bulldogs are also dealing with various minor soft-tissue injuries according to Smart.
