Kirby Smart offers injury update on trio of key Georgia players
ATHENS, Ga. — This preseason has been tough on Georgia from a physical standpoint with a number of contributors having to spend time on the shelf due to injuries. Kirby Smart spoke to reporters on Tuesday where he gave the latest on redshirt freshman running back Roderick Robinson, senior wideout Colbie Young, and redshirt freshman defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod.
“Robinson has been dealing with a little bit of a turf toe,” Smart said before also saying that there’s no known timeline for a return.
Young has been dealing with a hamstring injury, one that kept him out of both scrimmages. Smart was significantly more coy when talking about McLeod, not disclosing the specific injury but saying that they are trying to get him back.
Smart last spoke with reporters a week ago when he made it known that Robinson was dealing with a toe injury. Robinson was jogging on the practice field later in the week according to sources but he was not dressed out and did not condition during the scrimmage. Smart was significantly more coy when talking about McLeod, not disclosing the specific injury but saying that they are trying to get him back.

The Southern California native missed a good chunk of his first season at Georgia with an injury. He sustained a high-ankle sprain against South Carolina in week three and missed the next six games. Robinson finished the season with 24 carries for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Seven of those carries and 70 of those yards game in Georgia’s beatdown of Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
Sources told DawgsHQ earlier this preseason that McLeod, with both Jordan Hall and Warren Brinson out, was getting ample first-team opportunities. He transferred to Georgia in December after one season at South Carolina. He appeared in four games before leaving the team and making it known that he planned to red shirt.
Young turned in an impressive spring by all accounts. There were multiple practices where onlookers viewed him as one of the most one of the most dominant players on the field at times. He transferred in from Miami this offseason after catching 10 touchdown passes over the past two years for the Hurricanes.
