Jaheim Singletary issued a thoughtful goodbye to Georgia on Thursday, confirming DawgsHQ’s report from earlier in the day that he intends to enter the transfer portal. Singletary was a five-star prospect in Georgia’s 2022 class and a scout-team contributor throughout the 2022 season.

DawgsHQ has confirmed that Singletary’s name is in the portal as of early Friday afternoon.

“First off I want to thank God for everything!” Singletary said in a statement released via Instagram. I want to thank my parents, family, and support system for supporting me on the journey that I’m on.

“I want to tell my teammates I appreciate the legendary season that we had. The moments captured that will never be forgotten, and the Bloody Tuesdays, sweat, and tears that we put into every game until the very end.

“I want to thank coach Smart for giving me the opportunity to be a part of something very special as well. I want to thank my other coaches for making me better on and off the field every day as a better man and person.

“Last, to the UGA family, I will forever appreciate and remember how you all love anded welcomed me. The love for the community and school will forever be there. With that said, I will be entering the transfer portal.”

Entrance into the transfer portal does not mean a player has to leave that program. It does, however, mean that the player can be recruited by other schools. The current transfer portal window closes on January 18.

Singletary appeared in four games for Georgia in 2022 but did not appear on the stat sheet. He was behind starters Kelee Ringo and Kamari Lassiter as well as Nyland Green and fellow 2022 signees Daylen Everette and Julian Humphrey.

At just under 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, Singletary finished the 2022 cycle ranked as the nation’s No. 27 overall prospect. He was the No. 4 cornerback in the country as well as the No. 5 player in Florida, all according to the industry-generated, equally weighted On3 Consensus.

Kirby Smart has stated on multiple occasions that cornerback is a position that experiences a lot of churn via the transfer portal and NFL Draft. Teams usually play just two cornerbacks and players are looking to get on the field as soon as possible. It’s also a premium position that garners a large salary in the NFL.

With that in mind, Smart and company targeted the cornerback position heavily in the 2023 class. They signed five guys who could play the position — four-stars A.J. Harris, Chris Peal, Daniel Harris, and Justyn Rhett along with three-star Kyron Jones, who is listed as a running back.

The Bulldogs have also had two cornerbacks drafted in the first round under Smart. Deandre Baker went in round one of the 2019 NFL Draft. Eric Stokes went in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Tyson Campbell was picked No. 33 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Singletary’s scouting report coming out of high school…

“A tall, lean ball-hawking cornerback. Uses his 6-foot-2.5 stature, 33-inch arms and bouncy athleticism to make plays on the ball at a high rate. Looks like a wide receiver playing corner when the ball is in the air with his ability to extend and high-point. Unsurprisingly also doubles as a talented wide receiver for his high school team. Plays with physicality both as a run defender and in press situations. Has above average, not great long speed for the position. Grew over an inch between his junior and senior years.” – On3 Scouting
