Live Updates: No. 1 Georgia 55 - Vanderbilt 0 -- FINAL
ATHENS, Ga. — It’s Saturday in the Classic City where No. 1 Georgia is set to host Vanderbilt for homecoming. The second half of the Bulldogs’ 2022 regular season begins today.
Kirby Smart has his team off to a 6-0 start in its National Championship defense. Georgia is coming off a 42-10 win over Auburn and today will mark the first time this season that it has played two home games in a row.
Vanderbilt is 3-3 on the year but it has already surpassed expectations. The sports books had the Commodores over/under win total set for 2.5 for this season. The Commodores gave Ole Miss all it wanted last week as the Rebels pulled away late for a 52-28 win. That game was still highly competitive in the third quarter. The Commodores are 0-2 in SEC play with six more league games in a row to cap off the regular season.
Georgia is favored by 37.5 points according to the VegasInside Consensus, but the Bulldogs have already been reminded this season that they have to take every opponent seriously. According to Smart, Vanderbilt has the ability to do what Missouri did to Georgia a couple of weeks ago if the Bulldogs don’t come to play.
“A lot,” Kirby Smart said of Vanderbilt’s improvement. “We start with the first game of the year. You know, they go out to Hawaii and played in a tough environment. Tough time change. Very mature to handle that and play well. They played last week. I mean, you watch the Ole Miss tape, they came out and attacked and played well. I mean, well coached. So the expectation is that you’re going to grow and get better. And everybody measures that in different amounts. I’m sure Clark has his way of measuring it just like we have our way of trying to measure improve. But they, probably to me, one of the most improved teams in league in terms of the way they’re playing right now.”
In case anyone needs a reminded, Missouri gave Georgia a four-quarter game in Columbia two weeks ago. The Bulldogs were favored by a full four scores but they needed two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat the Tigers 26-22.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on The SEC Network, but there are other ways to consume the action. Below, DawgsHQ provides links for you to stream the game live, listen in, and follow along with the live stats.

TOUCHDOWN (1:06): Georgia turns the turnover into points. The Bulldogs use just over five minutes on a 10-play, 85-yard march. TOUCHDOWN (9:00): Georgia puts together a long touchdown drive, 81 yards to be exact. It took 11 plays to get there with Daijun Edwards reaching the end zone for the fifth time in three games. Podlesny’s PAT gives Georgia a 21-0 lead.
1st Quarter
TOUCHDOWN (1:40): A 20-yard punt return from Ladd McConkey set Georgia up at the Vanderbilt 42-yard line to start the drive. Georgia wasted no time cashing in on the field position. The Bulldogs used four plays to punch it in with McIntosh running it right up the gut for a seven-yard touchdown. Podlesny’s PAT extends the UGA lead to 14-0.
TOUCHDOWN (10:01): Georgia took the opening kickoff and marched it 75-yard on 10 plays. The Bulldogs converted two third downs on the drive. One on 3rd and 8 when Stetson Bennett hit Marcus-Rosemy-Jacksaint for 28 yard. The second conversion resulted in a touchdown when Bennett, on 3rd and 7 from the Vanderbilt 11, found Kenny McIntosh for the score. Jack Podlesny’s PAT stakes Georgia to an early 7-0 lead.
***Vanderbilt wins the coin toss and defers to the second half. Georgia will get the football first.
Pregame…
- It looks as if Georgia will be without Kendall Milton today. He is not dressed out during pregame warmup.
- Redshirt sophomore tight end Arik Gilbert is dressed out for the Vanderbilt game. He also dressed last week for the Auburn game and made the trip with Georgia to Missouri despite not dressing out.
- DawgsHQ has learned that Georgia will likely be shorthanded at insider linebacker again today. Smael Mondon is not expected to play. He missed last week’s game vs. Auburn with an ankle injury. He is expected to be ready in time for Florida in two weeks.
- DawgsHQ has gotten a look at the depth chart Georgia released before the Vanderbilt game. The depth chart is the same as last week’s but it still lists Jalen Carter as the starter. He is almost certainly out for this game.
