Georgia Football makes decision on White House visit
The Georgia Bulldogs have won back to back National Championships, but for the second straight year, they won’t be heading to the White House. Seth Emerson of The Athletic was first to report the decision made by the athletic department on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, the date suggested is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of year,” an athletic department spokesman told Emerson, citing June 12th as the proposed date. “However, we are appreciative of the invitation and look forward to other opportunities for Georgia teams moving forward.”
Georgia received its invitation from the White House last week. It came after a push from several people including defensive lineman Warren Brinson, who posted on social media in February that he thought it was crazy they had not received one yet, even going as far as to tag President Joe Biden. Georgia political officials including Sen. Jon Ossoff, Sen. Raphael Warnock and Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter also wrote a letter to the President.
“We hope you will join us in recognizing the tremendous achievements of all University of Georgia’s football players, coaches, and staff who contributed to this championship season,” the letter read, via FOX 5 Atlanta.

Georgia’s no-show to the White House means that 2019 LSU remains the last team to celebrate their championship in Washington due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Announced earlier this week was the fact that NCAA basketball champions UConn (men’s) and LSU (women’s) will both head to the White House later this month.
Ten players were picked from Georgia in the 2023 NFL Draft, tied with Alabama for the most among any school in the country. That included three in the first round.
Georgia players left on campus are in the midst of wrapping up their final exams for the 2022-23 academic calendar before attention turns to the summer when the team will begin its pursuit of a third straight. The Bulldogs will have to replace several stars including quarterback Stetson Bennett, running back Kenny McIntosh, tight end Darnell Washington, defensive lineman Jalen Carter, outside linebacker Nolan Smith, cornerback Kelee Ringo and safety Christopher Smith, but confidence is high in the Dawgs to do so.
