Georgia Football: Midweek injury updates for the Bulldogs
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia is two days into preparation for Mississippi State, and on Tuesday, head coach Kirby Smart shared how his team has looked in practice and which players have been available. Robert Beal, AD Mitchell and Kenny McIntosh were among the key players mentioned by the Bulldogs’ seventh-year head man.
“They’ve all been great. They’ve all been super,” Smart said when asked about Beal, Mitchell, Amarius Mims and Xavier Truss. “AD’s probably the furthest behind those guys. He hasn’t taken reps but he’s out there running. The rest of those guys are all repping.”
“Kenny’s limited some,” he added on the running backs after mentioning that McIntosh, Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton were all ‘dinged up’ or less than 100% on Monday. “He’s got a deep thigh contusion. He’s had it two games. He’s been limited. The rest of the guys have been going.”
Beal left Georgia’s win over Tennessee in the third quarter and ended up going into the locker room with what TV described as a neck injury. In his postgame press conference, Smart said that Beal went in for an X-ray and at the time, he had not heard the result. Monday he offered an update.
“Robert had a stinger. He feels good,” Smart said. “I haven’t seen him today, but we feel good about him playing.”

As for the others, Mitchell suffered a high ankle sprain in Georgia’s second game of the season against Samford and missed the next three outings for the Bulldogs. He returned briefly against Auburn but has missed the three most recent games. Smart shared prior to Tennessee week that Mitchell’s injury has been classified as a high ankle sprain. Overall, he has played just five snaps since the opener against Oregon.
Meanwhile, McIntosh is second on the team in carries and yards with 79 attempts, 384 yards and six scores on the season. He led the team in rushing on Saturday with 52 yards on 10 attempts.
“Kenny always does a great job as a runner,” Smart said on McIntosh on Monday. “He had some elusive runs last week. He breaks tackles downfield. He had a lot of those against Florida. He’s running the ball really well this year. Sometimes it’s not there, and he makes the most of it. And sometimes it is there, and he makes more of it. And I’m pleased with all those guys’ performances.”
Georiga goes on the road this week to Mississippi State to take on the Bulldogs led by Mike Leach. Kickoff time from Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville is set for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Georgia can clinch the SEC East and their spot in the SEC Championship Game for the fifth time in six season with a win.
