ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia will travel to Mississippi State for a November 12 clash that will kick off at 7 p.m. ET and be televised by ESPN, the SEC announced on Monday. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 at 8-0 (4-0 in SEC). Mississippi State is currently 5-3 (2-3 in SEC).

Georgia hasn’t played in Starkville since 2010, a game the Bulldogs from the SEC West won 24-12 with Dan Mullen as head coach. That one was also a 7 p.m ET kickoff. Georgia went on to finish that season 6-7 with a loss to UCF in the Liberty Bowl at season’s end. That loss was the third of four straight for the 2010 Bulldogs, the program’s worst team record-wise since the 1990s.

Since then Georgia and Mississippi State have squared off three times inside Sanford Stadium and all three have been victories for the home team. MSU came back to Athens in 2011 and was treated rudely. Georgia committed three turnovers but still dispatched of Mississippi State by a score of 24-10.

The Bulldogs from the SEC East dominated Mississippi State when it traveled to Athens in 2017. Georgia scored on its first offensive play and never looked back in the 31-3 win. UGA needed just 54 plays to pile up over 400 yards of offense.

MSU rolled back into Athens a few years later when schedules were altered due to the spread of COVID-19. That was a tight one throughout. The Bulldogs from the SEC West had a seven-point lead with less than a minute and a half left to go in the first half. Georgia tied it up less than a minute later, and took leads in the third and fourth quarters to win 31-24. That was JT Daniels UGA debut and he threw for over 400 yards and four scores.

It will only be the 26th meeting between the two SEC programs. Georgia leads the all-time series 19-6.

Mike Leach’s team has had some ups and downs this season. It started the season with five wins in its first six games. The only loss was to LSU and Mississippi State took down the likes of Texas A&M and Arkansas in consecutive weeks. The last two weeks, however, haven’t gone well.

MSU was beaten pretty handily by Kentucky on October 15 and then lost to Alabama 30-6 on October 22. It was on bye this past weekend. Mississippi State will play Auburn this coming Saturday with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET on The SEC Network.

Georgia is 8-0 on the season after taking down Florida 42-20 on Saturday. It overcame three turnovers and a dismal third quarter thanks to a 28-3 first half and 14 unanswered points to end the game. Next up for is the first ever top-three matchup inside Sanford Stadium. Georgia will take on No. 2 Tennessee with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
