Georgia football is, of course, second to Alabama in SEC Championship odds for 2022. I say ‘of course’ because next year’s Alabama Crimson Tide team is already projected to cure cancer.

And invent a sustainable fuel source that will carry the human race to Mars.

Plus, when Georgia meets Alabama in the SEC Championship game, Bama will use revenge from the National Championship loss as fuel, too. And you’ll hear all about it in the weeks leading up to it.

Before the Tide and the Dawgs get there, though, they have to navigate their regular season SEC schedules.

Based purely on the SEC Championship odds, Georgia actually has an easier path than Alabama does.

Georgia football’s odds to win the SEC Championship

Granted, it’s June. I get it.

But here’s how the odds currently stack up. Georgia’s regular season opponents are bold. Home opponents are italicized bold. Obviously, the Florida game is in Jacksonville.

Alabama -140
Georgia +120
Texas A&M +1600
Ole Miss +3000
LSU +4000
Kentucky +4000
Tennessee +5000
Arkansas +5000
Florida +5000
Auburn +10000
Mississippi State +10000
South Carolina +10000
Missouri +50000
Vanderbilt +100000

Georgia gets the SEC bottom feeders en route to the Championship game, while Bama gets a tougher SEC West

After Georgia at +120, Alabama has to play Texas A&M (speaking of revenge games… this one may have a Michael Bay film made to depict the pyrotechnics in that Tuscaloosa matchup), at Ole Miss, and at LSU.

Alabama also plays Tennessee in Knoxville, while the Dawgs get the SEC darkhorse Vols between the Hedges.

Maybe Alabama is a better team than Georgia, and this tougher schedule (on paper, anyway) isn’t a problem.

But it’s difficult to go undefeated. Neither Georgia or Bama can take any of the gimmes on their schedule for granted. It isn’t often that you get a second crack at the CFP after losing in the SEC Championship game.

Or after not making it to the SEC Championship at all. Unless you’re Alabama or Georgia, I guess.
